Forums - Nintendo - How in the WORLD! Did Nintendo think they did not have to advertise the retail version of Wii Sports Club for Wii U?

Not sure why people expected this game to be marketed...its a retail bundle of a digital version of a game that everyone already played last gen. Heavy marketing for this would just be a waste of money...

I think Nintendo ran out advertising money :(.

They're attributing their recent losses to the cost of marketing.

Maybe by advertising it people would get confused all over again in thinking that Wii U is Wii!Not that they don't already. It's really hilarious to see them create their own disaster.

They did market Wii Sports Club over the holidays ... no one cared:

The market for this type of game nowadays is simply small, that's all there is to it. People got their fill of Wii Sports years ago and aren't going to buy a new system to play that again. Kinect Sports is a flop on the XBox One too.

It's an idea that's simply expired in its appeal. That's all there is to it. Mario & Sonic Olympic Games and Wii Fit U are also sales duds, that should've been a tip off that Wii Sports Club wasn't going to do much. It's not 2008 anymore.

Who cares? If they wanted this to succeed they would have given us an actual sequel by now and not an old game chopped into pieces.

...... If you claim Nintendo Land as a true successor game, I will punch you.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Wii Fit U and Mario & Sonic Sochii and Wii Party U (only has decent numbers because it's force bundled with every Wii U in Japan basically) are full blown sequels with new mini-games. No one cared about those.

No one's going to pay even $30 for this type of experience anymore ... the mini-game craze is over, just like the music/instrument fad died out a few years prior (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, DJ Hero, etc.).

After Wii Sports + Resort + the Mario/Sonic Olympic games, how many sports are even left that aren't covered and would actually work well with the Wiimote or Wii U tablet?

I honestly think the retail version is more to appease fans than to make sales. There are a lot of people who live in areas with no internet and probably had a little outcry that wii sports club would possibly be download only. I think the main focus of this title is to be online and I think that's the right choice. We don't need an abundance of digital distractions in the retail space.

in for the nintendo bashing, out for the buda reference =/

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

People should just read/listen to "Console Wars" and they'll get an idea of how Nintendo works and especially their philosophy on marketing (The constant in-fighting between the marketing department and the CEO at Nintendo was a pretty interesting read f.ex).

In this case i can tell you that Nintendo no longer believe in the Wii series anymore, so naturally won't allocate resources to these games in their marketing budget (which is pretty small this year). You can also be damn sure Wii Sports Club is the last game in the Wii series.

Amiibo/SSB/MK8 is where they'll spend marketing $ this year. Marketing from Nintendo's pov is all about picking your battles, and i'm pretty sure they've made their choice.

Nintendo needs to market their games much better. They only did a good job with MK8.

Actually, Luigi did most of the MK8 marketing..
