Read again what I wrote: The Pokemon IP isn't owned by Nintendo, but by another company named the Pokemon company. If I remember right, GameFreak and Nintendo have shares of this company. As you claim GameFreak isn't owned by Nintendo, then also the Pokemon Company isn't owned by Nintendo and so they don't own the Pokemon IP. |
Nintendo does not 100% own the IP, but the have a large stake in it. They had no stake in Xenoblade Chronicles, only in the company. Nintendo has direct control over a lot of the IP, with Game Freak focusing on developing and the Pokemon Company focusing on licensing.

Nintendo doesn't have a stake in the IP. That sits at the Pokemon Comapny, a company founded for the exact reason to manage the Pokemon IP. Nintendo has shares of this company. The situation is comparable to Monolith/Xenoblade.
EDIT:
This article explains it further: http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/19/5745732/what-is-the-pokemon-company
"Founded in 1998 in Tokyo, Japan, the organization was established by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures — three companies independent from one another — as The Pokémon Center Company. It was officially named The Pokémon Company in 2000.
Its mission was simple in name, but daunting in task: manage the Pokémon brand. This isn't just limited to the franchise's video games, but its trading card game, animated series and films and other licensing responsibilities."

So Nintendo has to licence Pokemon characters for stuff like Smash Bros?

Look at the credits for Smash or even the directs featuring smash with Pokemon characters, they will have a ( c ) Pokemon Company.
Anyways, as having the majority means practically owning the company, the Pokemon company will never say no to Nintendo. That's what the discussion with VanceIX is about.

Fair enough

Yes, since Knack has been an astounding success in sales, especially in Japan. |
Technically that is entirely correct. It's undisputable. The causes for it is where argument comes in. Wasn't the PS4 only sold as a knack bundle at release? Darn good way to make a title look like a hit, no? But yeah, it was a success as far as sales and likely profitability, but not so much when it comes to critic or user reviews. Hard to say if another will be made. I personally think the game is garbage, I hope I don't offend anyone with that statment, but it's just terrible. None of the offerings from any company at launch this time around were great, but I think Knack was by far the worst.
Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

If you can find me an article saying that Nintendo owns no part of the Pokemon franchise, not single part, I'll believe you. As of now, yes, the Pokemon Company has rights to Pokemon, but so does Nintendo and Game Freak. They all have a share in the IP.

Yes, which allowed the IP to gain tons of popularity there. A sequel is just about guaranteed now. |
You think? The reception wasn't very good. Unless it comes bundled with a PS5 at launch as the only buying option I don't see it being profitable or successful again.
According to Yoshida it was meant to show that the console is supposed to cater to the 'less hardcore' or whatever, but that inception has kind of died off unless you count LBP2. Maybe I'm missing some others :/
Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
