However, M$ Entertainment and Devices Division includes other products such as the Windows phone and Skype.

Sony financials have nothing to do with the PS4 trouncing the Xbox, neither does M$ financials. Don't know how people keep circling back to this when it has zero relevance and is simply a shot-in-the-dark attempt at creating any kind of talking point simply to have something to say when discussing the XB1 vs PS4 sales numbers.

Now they're even tossing PS Now pricing into the mix.... SMH.

I guess when something as quantifiable and indisputable as sales numbers are staring you right in the face, you might as well try finding something.... ANYTHING... to talk about.

The gaming department is one of the few profitable departments left at Sony. Its now becoming their bread and butter. Look if up if you like the PS3 entered the profit region in 2010 and the PS4 is already in range of profit.

What is happening in your discussion with him (and in lots of "does X console make money" discussions) is people confuse the idea that a console can make profit with each sale, for a console actually being profitable.

PS3 makes money on hardware now for Sony. But that doesn't erase the years of red Sony saw with the PS3. Hell, it ate up virtually all of their PS1 or PS2 profits, I forget. At the same time, MS might still be in the red on the whole Xbox product because of the original investment it took to get the Xbox and Live off the ground. Even though the 360 has been profitable for years.

The Xbox division is still profitable, mainly due to 360 hardware and LIVE revenue (marketplace + subs).

Really I have no interest in arguing with someone who has trouble accepting reality.  If you want to believe that Xbox is profitable, contrary to EVERYTHING being said in their actual financial statements, then go right ahead.  I am done here.  Buh bye!  Have a nice life.
