Forums - Sales - X1 will never catch or match PS4 sales, it is a misfired product.

I think by the holidays they will drop the price another $50 and probably include a bundled game and I think at that point it will take off. The original Xbox was good graphically, and for some a late entry into the console race it was a good console, it just had to compete against the best selling console ever. They did a lot right with the 360 and there are a lot of people who love their 360, they will be loyal, MS just really misjudged on the Kinect and price and had they come out at $350 with no Kinect in the beginning they would be in the lead. They can still recover, the $100 is the first step, hopefully by the holidays they have some good software. Personally $300 is my price point for both these consoles, and by next year they both will be $300.

If the X1 reveal wasn't so shit, I'm sure they wouldn't be so far behind in sales. I feel like they're was some deal made between the companies in the shadows.

Sony: Betcha you can't announce a terrible product and turn it around.
MS: Challenge accepted!

1. That said, MS has made some serious repairs since launch, and continues to make the right moves, and Sony is actually fumbling some of that positive momentum they have.

Sure Sony has the better game machine, 2. but if MS has more games, and Sony has long dry spells on the exclusive side and too much indie, and not enough AAA 1st party, would the 3rd party software alone continue to be enough?

The reason that 3. PS3 eventually caught up to X360 was because of the AAA 1st party efforts. The X360 had that clear 3rd party advantage early on. Now it seems the roles are reversed.

I think its anyone's game right now, and as they big two compete, the gamers will continue to be the real winners.

there is just so much false info here its sad.....

  1. Sony is fumbling some of that positive momentum? How? Please enlighten me.....
  2. MS has more games? And sony has dry spells and too much indie??? This is just dirty XBOT propaganda (not directed at you). There simply is no truth to this claim whatsoever, its just what xbots say when trying to win an argument. And this thing is thrown around like anyone is actually saying they aren't buying a PS4 cause it has no games. For a console with no games it sure as hell is selling very well.
  3. Now the PS4 has the third party advantage and please, sony's glut of AAA first party studios haven't suddenly gone away. They are still there and the games are still coming. Whats really funny is if you actually look at the amount of first party games from both companies in the first 24 months, you will find that sony has more.
I hate to break it to you, but its not anyones game. Its currently sony's game to lose. And to do that they have to really really try really hard. All the signs and facts are there only if you choose to see it.

Xbox One is a great system. Controller looks awesome. I was also interested in it. But microsoft forced me to buy playstation 4 first. Microsoft lost me as a buyer becaue

1. Their attitude was very arrogant and that DRM really made me sick.
2. I also play in PC. So I dont expect much graphically demanding games from console gaming. 720p / 1080p in consoles dont matter for me. Only thing matters is exclusive games. Microsofts most of the exclusives end up in PC anyway. This is why playstation 4 is the best choice for this gen.
3. Microsoft dont have many good first party studios as sony. For exclusive wise playstation 4 is the best choice.

Many average gamers also think in this way. This is the reason xbox one might never catch playstation 4.

Retail clerks are going to be asked whats the difference, when they can't say price, they are going to say the PS4s resolutions are higher, consumers will be like (higher for same price) = better, its that simple.

You're out of touch with the average consumer. They will not discuss resolution and frame rates, they will discuss games and price.

Safe bet the average clerk is not reading Digital Foundry articles. Those are for forum dwellers like us.

This is the winner post!!!  As a frat boy and average gamer that lurks here, sure I'm aware of FPS and resolutions, but I sure don't give two craps about that. As long as I buy games that are fun and looks good on my TV that's all that matters. Plus, don't you have to own the best TV for gaming to take advantage of things like that?!? I'm sure the average customer bought the cheapest best HDTV and not the one that will play be best for their console.

When two pieces of plastic cost the same, do the same thing, and more or less look the exact same. What are you going to choose based on? Brand Allegiance? Obviously, that has no place when we are talking about the average consumer.

They are going to buy it based on games and not whether one has slightly better looking multiplats. If he see the Halo collection for the Xbox One and likes Halo hes gonna buy the Xbox One. Only forum dwellers care about whether the PS4 has better looking hair in a video game.

Wii was the weakest console yet sold the most

PS2 was the weakest console yet sold the most

DS was the weakest yet sold the most

3DS was the weakest yet sold the most

Games not graphics. People play games.

Also, MS has reversed a lot of its policies. It took MS 6months to remove Kinect and drop the price and fix a lot of the weaknesses it has. 900p vs 1080p is negligent as we all have seen, its about games.

According to many of you here you guys must have expected that Titanfall PC shouldve outsold the Xbox One version based on graphics yet it didn't. The average Joe only cares about having fun and playing games.

Average Consumer, mentioning preferences is irrelevant.

Both versions of the game are 60$, the only difference is that one has lower resolution, you might not be able to tell the difference, but someone who actually values there money will ask what is the difference.

Face the facts, the consoles are virtually identical, especially to the average consumer, any difference between the two are a lot more important than usual.

All 4 of the systems you mentioned where the cheapest, 3/4 of those systems released earlier than the competition.

Wii U is cheaper and released a year before the competition yet, the PS4 surpassed it in 6 months, clearly you're doing nothing by mentioning them.

Wii U doesnt have games and no third party support which the Xbox One does have. Also, people buy consoles based on exclusives not multiplats. The PS3 sold well despite having inferior multiplats because of its great exclusives. I see the Xbox One following the same path.
