Releases are few and far between this year. They really need more big games for the system. Metroid would have been nice this summer.

Not surprised. software has been pretty underwhelming this year and looks like it will remain so until Pokemon an maybe Smash is release later this year

Nintendo simply don't have sufficient resources to produce a satisfactory amount of quality content for their systems. HD Wii U games take a ton of effort, time and manpower to develop, and it's clear they're concentrating on that now.
Last year and before, they were doing the reverse (focus on 3DS), and we were getting plenty of excellent games for the handheld, but hardly any for Wii U. Now it's the other way around, only Wii U games take longer, so there's hardly anything to go around on either system.

They need to expand big time in order to become wholly self-sufficient, because 3rd party content they won't ever get.

Looking at the US 3DS sales this year, the biggest games the 3DS has gotten so far in 2014 are Bravely Default, Yoshi's Old Island, and Kirby. There's been virtually no other notable games, no new versions of the hardware, no real price drops, nothing. Just three moderate-sized games.

Unless Tomodachi Life becomes a huge deal, I honestly expect 3DS sales in the West to remain poor until Q4, when the holidays, Smash, and Pokemon kick in. Until then, Nintendo deserves poor sales.

The 3DS hasn't had a price cut in 3 years. So that is to blame.

Obviously the 3DS & 3DS XL will get a price cut this Holiday, especially with the current sales it's been having this year.

We saw an $80 price cut for an loss, but now it will get a $50 to $70 at a profit. The 3DS XL was already at a profit, and will continue to be so with a $50 price cut.

Monster Hunter 4 is the exclusive that will force some Home Console gamers to buy a Handheld System, specifically the 3DS or 3DS XL.

Theres also many other titles coming like; Shantee & those 2 exclusives from Mega Man creator, & Rodea the Sky Soldier & Professor Layton VS. Phoenix Wright & Super Smash Bros. on Handheld with 2D sprite looking graphics if you play with the 3D OFF. There are other system sellers this year as well.

Long story short, the 3DS & 3DS XL have being selling decent despite poor sales, which is why there's no deals for the 3DS & 3DS XL, even though you can find deals for the 2DS which is only being sold $30 below suggested retail price for the same reason why anything would be sold much below suggested retail price, which is because they can't sell any of them off of their selves, and had to cut the price to finally sell them at all, so they can finally get rid of their very olde recieved shipment of 2DS's.

Im curious to see just how bad the 2DS will continue to sell. I'm guessing Nintendo had already lowered their forecast of 2DS sells, since the 2DS has been doing soo much more worse in sells then Nintendo's own expectations, which wasn't much, since they didn't release the 2DS in that many countries.

Hard to say. But, actually, i've had a cold when 3DS sales dropped, so maybe that could be true.

I think that is kind-off a two sided issue. If there would be quality western game support for them, I doubt that handhelds wouldent sell. Handhelds where way to reliant on Japanese software for the last decade, and untill some massive western, handheld IPs come around, I doubt the sittuation will change. Never the less, I doubt that they wil ceese to exist. They will only have lower sales, but probably higher sw attach rates.
