Last decade? Handhelds have ALWAYS been reliant on Japanese software. Fact is Western devs never really gave a damn long before smartphones and tablets were a thing. If western devs didnt really care when Handhelds were at there peak they surely will not care now. They wont go away, Japan alone will keep them afloat since they seem to be only region to really care. But i wouldnt be surprised in the future they dont leave Japan

There are some Western Developers that make exclusives for 3DS, unlike previous Generations.

But yeah, most Western Devs just care about HD Video Game Systems. The only type of Western Exclusives I ever seem to see on the 3DS would be games like Gunman Clive 2 & Mutant Mudds 2 & the App; Colors! 3D & Spy Hunter & Batman Arkham Origins 2 &.....well, you get the idea of what kind of Western Exclusives the 3DS gets.

but thats kind of my point. most of those games you listed arent doing crap for the system. They dont sell much and they definitely arent moving systems. Alot of indies, those are the types of games that people will and do play on their phones or tablets for much cheaper. Spy Hunter bombed. Arkham bombed hard on 3ds im surprised the Vita version sold better.

Arkham Origins 2 is the sequel to Arkham Origins 1, so people have to play and beat the first one before they pay for part 2, plus Arkham 1 & 2 both got very bad reviews for just reasons.
Spy Hunter was released at $40 instead of $30 or $25 or $20.

I do agree with you on everything, except for the fact that indies have been using smartphones & tablets & PCs to sell the sequels, which are 3DS exclusives. But yeah, these indie games have very little inpact at the end of the day, so it doesn't matter.

Basically I agree with everything you just said.

But there is a very good audience in the West for good Japanese games, and the Japanese Devs tend to make 3DS exclusives, because they prefer to make new games as Glasses-Free 3D exclusives. So good thing Japanese games on in good demand in the west, since western games tend to only be on Home Consoles only, for the latest HD graphics with their 800 MHz clocked GPUs.

Yeah, this Gen is pretty much predictable, but I hope next Gen will be mixed up for both Home Consoles & Handhelds, instead of just Japanese on Nintendo Handheld, and western Devs for Home Consoles, like we clearly have for this entire Gen.

OT lets be real handheld are becoming less important in the west. Doesnt help that nothing of significance has released here, doesnt mean you cant still enjoy it. I know i am.

I think that is kind-off a two sided issue. If there would be quality western game support for them, I doubt that handhelds wouldent sell. Handhelds where way to reliant on Japanese software for the last decade, and untill some massive western, handheld IPs come around, I doubt the sittuation will change. Never the less, I doubt that they wil ceese to exist. They will only have lower sales, but probably higher sw attach rates.

They cared, they just trew licensed games on them, that sold like hotcakes. Ubisoft considered the DS their main platform for almost half a decade. They where the smartphones of the previous generation. They where reliable from a financial point of view because software sales used to be solid and development cost used to be low. Now software sales are good (in a best case scenario) and dev costs blew out of proportion.

DS was their main platform? according to who? what games did they put on the DS that was noticable? Even if that were true that is one publisher out of the few. DS just had such a large install base that everybody was putting stuff on them. 3ds isnt doing as well and wont have it as big. Hell what western published games did really well on DS? The only thing that comes to mind is stuff like Cooking Mama but the days of those selling well on dedicated handhelds are long gone and they arent coming back.

According to their financial statements? Remember the "Imagine" craze? They made massive profits off it, regardles of the software quality. And shovelware used to push systems, buyt it fails so these days, because they pretty much only appear on smart devices.

Just something to chew on:

ANd then came the drop:

Western developers did support handhelds, they just simply moved on to the new gold craze, smart devices.

oh yeah! you know what im not mad to see them go. If that was what they were giving us. But to be fair its not like they stopped making those games. There are imagine and other shovelware games for 3ds. I think what had happened was people either got smart and realized they were crap OR they just started to play that crap more cheaply for their phones.

40 bucks for spy hunter is way too much. But i imagine thats what most people think about these handheld games which is why the software sells the way it is. IMHO im pessimistic i dont see the situation changing. Western devs did their thing with DS and even PSP got a few console like non shovelware games. Unfortunatly neither of their followups are doing anything close to their respective predecessors so western devs are like scew it phones it is. I dont think Wester audience is crazy about spending 30 to 40 in an age with much cheaper games on their phones. Hopefully their are enough people still willing to do that to keep handhelds afloat

They look depressing especially if you compare them to the old DS numbers

Yeah. The 3DS started out with a system of $40 or $30 to $40.

But now the system works like this: $10 to $35.

So it seems Nintendo figure out what they need to do for better Software sells, and attach rate. 3rd parties have also been doing their part by releasing new 3DS retail games at $10 to $30. And Steel Diver suggested retail price is now $5 I believe, which is sweet for a new copy of a retail game.

Even Wii U titles started out $30 to $60, but now the new price system seems to be $20 to $60.

I hope to see this trend spread to PS4 & Xbox ONE, since I'm getting both. I skipped the Wii & PS3, but it seems I would have been better off with Wii & 360 if I had bought any consoles that gen. (I only got the DS during last Gen)

I'm happy I skipped last Gen Home Consoles, since it's not worth waiting til 2012 & 2013 for a real library, especially when the 3 new Home Consoles all came out in both 2012 & 2013, LOL but true. I assume I can ply PS3 & 360 games on the PS4/ONE via Virtual Console like Playstation Network & Xbox Live, right?

The only complaint I have is paying for online, so I guess I'll only do certain months for the titles I missed out on last Gen, while getting multiplatform online games for Wii U for the free online. At least they all do actual HD graphics, unlike last gen when only select games had Native HD graphics. I'll just get other multiplats for PS4 unless they have good enough GamePad functions like Darksiders 2 & Batman Arkham City. I guess I'll just use Xbox ONE for the exclusives I'm actually into, like Halo.

I'm sorry to say I have no personal interest in PS Vita, but I did keep my eye out to made sure before I came to that conclusion for my personal interest. The PS4 wins single player multiplat experiences for me because of graphics. The Wii U & 3DS for exclsuives & functions & online (since thats still free).

But now I just gotten purely into my own personal preference in gaming.
