I do agree that fans will have mixed feeling about this till 10 years later when they will be praising it

I'm not praising Wind Waker ten years later. I still dislike it.

Same here.

And then there's guys like me. I adored the hell out of Wind Waker the moment I saw it.

And I still love it 10 years later.

That's why I keep saying that all the anime-zelda accomplishes is to split the fanbase. It polarized us 10 years ago, and it still does.

Good for you if you like it, but I'll tell you this. If GC Zelda looked like the demo they showed (IE classic fantasy), then we never would have been split in the first place. Instead of half the fanbase (or more) noone would have complained about the looks.

The fanbase wouldn't have split but the's a good chance it would of shrunk as time passes and this is shown to happen in other franchise that choose not to change the approach. Ultimately splitting the fanbase with differing and varied approaches is for the best, Nintendo essentially did with Zelda what they did with Mario and made the gameplay giving what draws people back and not how it looks and what WW established was that this is a series that will not stick to one approach in each installment giving them a good amount of freedom. If every Zelda game since OOT kept that approach the's a good chance the userbase would have shrunk and you'd be looking at less potential sales, I'll even add some food for thought, the animation quality shown is on par with what we see in Ghibli films and the approach could give the series a big boost in Japan. Personally I don't see the visual approach affecting performance in the west by much.

It shrunk with Wind Waker. It grew with Twilight Princess.

You don't get it. Nintendo made the game cell shaded because that's how Zelda is meant to look. That's it. No alterior motive. When the next console is as powerful as the PS4, it'll be cell shaded. When the one after that does 4K at 180fps, it'll still be cell shaded. Until Aonuma dies and is forced to give the IP to someone else, there's not a chance in hell that it will ever look "realistic" again, because Aonuma doesn't like it that way. And he won't give the IP to someone who doesn't share his vision. End of discussion.

And for the record, Miyamoto wanted TP to look like Wind Waker and was originally against it looking realistic, so don't anyone try saying anything about what Zelda's "original look" was suppoesed to be, because it definitely wasn't realistic. Miyamoto created Pikmin and Miis. He doesn't care about "realism" or "hardcore gamers."

just a reminder, zelda was never realistic.

It was marketed with a western fantasy esthetic up until WW. You cannot possibly deny that.

Less popular IP, far less quality game.

And nobody wanted it to look like that, they wanted it to look like this:

You are right: if there is a giant spider the sales are much better.

Brutal Legend - X360 - 2009 - Electronic Arts - 0.94

Intentionally missing the point doesn't help your argument.

That's just a terrible strawman you're doing there.

WW still sold millions of copies, in the magnitude expected of the Zelda series. It also sold the worst when compared to other Zelda games. While TP bumped up to spectacular sales again. Noone is saying that artstyle is the main appeal of Zelda games. But it sure as hell has an impact on sales. You have to be blind, deaf or worse to not realize that.

It was cool to see Zelda in HD for the first time, but personally I don't find that art style appealing and it's doing a terrible job at feeling like the Zelda universe. It looks like Link wandered into an Unreal tech demo.

Windwaker is my favorite zelda game, Oot second, Twilight princess least favorite (was pretty ugly). Skyward sword had the looks again but the motion controls ruined it for me. Zelda WiiU looks perfect to me, now please let me control the camera again with the right analog stick.

Skyward Sword was really ugly... Only some parts looked good. Those trees looked like something you'd find in an N64 game.

Do you guys believe this will run in 1080p?

I mean it still is WindWaker engine right? WindWaker WiiU runs at 1080p

I dont think it will run at 1080p at all. The pictures they released are just for promotional purpose /wallpapers.
They also released HD SkywardSword screenshots to the public.

Pictures like this:  (uploaded to IGN on june 15th 2010)

it is cell shaded on characters, if link is any indication, but that has nothing to do with cartoon. cartoon is lack of proportion (ex: wind waker). this zelda is perfectly proportional + cell shading, it's not cartoon.

Yes it is. Cartoon is NOT lack of proportion. Anime is porpotunate. Comic art is porportunate. Lot's of cartoons are porpotunate. This is absolutly cartoony. Wind Waker is just one style of cartoon. Powerpuff Girls is a cartoon. The Amazing Spiderman is a cartoon. Your point is moot. The game has a cartoon art style.

even if that were true, just because links eyes are big, it doesn't mean it's anime. and the enviroment is not cartoonish either.

No anime environment is "cartoonish." I never said it's anime because his eyes are big. It's anime because it's anime.

I think you quoted the wrong guy, mate.

No anime environment is "cartoonish." I never said it's anime because his eyes are big. It's anime because it's anime.

aside from the eyes, there's nothing in there that would make someone scream anime. it's as anime as the tech demo.
