Forums - Nintendo - The real reason Wii U is considered "underpowered"?

My toaster oven is more powerful that all of them combined.

Can it run Crysis, though?

No i meant any Wii-U game. If a game like say MK8 runs in 1080P at 60 fps on Wii-U, that game could run in 4k at 60 fps on XOne/PS4 with the same graphics(if build from the ground up for that system). 4k is 4 times as many pixels as 1080P, and XOne/PS4 have over 4 times the computing power and 4 times the memory of the Wii-U.

They won't believe you no matter how much you explain your case.

Its a stupid reason.

The wii U currently has the most 1080p 60fps games and more are coming (mk8 confirmed to be , unless more than 2 players or something.)

Xbox One/ PS4 could run any Wii-U version of a game in 4k resolution.... PS4 with room to spare.

All the cross gen ports beg to differ.

I think (might be wrong) he meant that Xbox One/PS4 could run any game in 4k (30FPS?) that has a WiiU version that is 1080p 60FPS.

Might be a bit over the top, but there's no cross gen port that would fit the criteria of doing 1080p 60FPS on WiiU anyway to my knowledge. (and even if, there would be no 4k PS4/X1 game yet because next to no one owns a 4k TV and it would be a waste anyway since they could make the game look much better without increasing the resolution).

So even if they only run at 720p 30FPS on WiiU?

And also, Wii U is more like the GC than Wii. If Nintendo had actually built on the Wii maybe their console wouldn't be selling like shit.

False!

GC was as powerful as its counterparts and had the same controller (dual analogue, 4 face buttons and shoulder buttons). The Wii and Wii U are a generational leap behind (RAM, graphics card) and have novelty controllers. The GC had 3rd party multiplats that were the same/better than than on PS2 and Xbox whilst every single multiplat on Wii and Wii U is gimped.

Don't spread lies!

Good to see we have an expert on software development and PS4/One hardware.

You don't have to be an expert (at all) to compare basic numbers. You just need a little bit of common sense. PS4/X1 can output 4x the amount of pixels per second as the Wii U and can therefore do exactly what he claims.

EDIT: The 4x pixel count is slightly debatable with regards to the X1 but most definitely true for the PS4.

That's one reason but the other is the use of older semiconductor fabrication technologies ...

The PS3 Fat uses older semiconductor fabrication techology than the PS3 slim  is the PS3 fat underpowered? :)

The CPU on the Wii U lags a little behind the PS3 and 360, let alone the PS4 and One. The Wii U also has no hard drive, a fourth of the RAM of the other consoles, and a much different (and inferior) architecture.

But the biggest problem? The idiots at Nintendo named it after the FREAKIN WII. C'MON.

A lot of consumers associate Wii as being far behind the 360 and PS3 in terms of power, so that stigma carries over.

I still prefer my Wii U to my PS4 (at least until the PS4 gets some actual games out), but Nintendo screwed up big time.

After all said and done the PS4 just has a million & half lead.  It has loss Japan early.

It just has a million and a half lead, but it's been out in the market only six months compared to the year and a half the Wii U has been out.

The 1.5M isn't as important as looking at PS4 selling like 4x the WiiU. But each people will just look at what favors their point.

Aah is see what you mean, you're right i did not say that clearly but i was responding to white eagle's claim of the Wii-U having the most 1080p 60fps games. 720p 30 fps games would end up with 1080P 60fps by that logic. That does not mean that Wii-U can run any PS4 1080P at 720P at half the framerate btw, the power difference is much bigger than that. If a game engine is designed around XOne/PS4 i really don't see any way it could decently run on Wii-U.
