Forums - Nintendo - The real reason Wii U is considered "underpowered"?

No one has ever said the WiiU isn't power efficient :P When we say it's "under powered" we mean that, by comparison to its competitors, it's hardware is rather lacking.

Its a stupid reason.

The wii U currently has the most 1080p 60fps games and more are coming (mk8 confirmed to be , unless more than 2 players or something.)

Xbox One/ PS4 could run any Wii-U version of a game in 4k resolution.... PS4 with room to spare.

All the cross gen ports beg to differ.

When something is underclocked it has an effect on the power consumption. But that's obviously not the only reason.

I think (might be wrong) he meant that Xbox One/PS4 could run any game in 4k (30FPS?) that has a WiiU version that is 1080p 60FPS.

Might be a bit over the top, but there's no cross gen port that would fit the criteria of doing 1080p 60FPS on WiiU anyway to my knowledge. (and even if, there would be no 4k PS4/X1 game yet because next to no one owns a 4k TV and it would be a waste anyway since they could make the game look much better without increasing the resolution).

OP is completely irrelevant to anything except saving a few $$$ on an electricity bill. It's not part of anyone's arguments.

No i meant any Wii-U game. If a game like say MK8 runs in 1080P at 60 fps on Wii-U, that game could run in 4k at 60 fps on XOne/PS4 with the same graphics(if build from the ground up for that system). 4k is 4 times as many pixels as 1080P, and XOne/PS4 have over 4 times the computing power and 4 times the memory of the Wii-U.

Joke thread but I'm glad Wii U's consumption is low, it's outrageous how the other are so high, do they have a deal with electricity companies to make their consoles consume more energy than a powerful computer ?

When it comes to real power, the gap isn't that big compared to Wii vs 360/PS3, sure we certainly haven't seen the best of next gen's potential yet because of devs being lazy(I mean Nintendo don't bother respecting a release date, if they feel the game's not ready, they don't release it, that's how you get MK8 at 1080p 60fps, whereas on PS4/One they rush the developpement of games just to release on time and say "fuck it" to those next gen standards)

Now that graphics won't be the biggest improvement, they should focus on IAs, because so far our poor NPCs are still stupid.

But, even though the Wii was popular at the beginning of last gen, casuals moved away from it due to smartphones and its last three years were mediocre. This generation is all about the core market, and Nintendo didn't anticipate that, so they tried to build on the Wii, but in the process just made some core gamers shy away from it ("Wii" is practically synonymous with "casual"). Naming it something original would allow them to rebuild their identity with core gamers, but Nintendo didn't look ahead and it bit them.

First of all, Wii's sales started to falter when Nintendo began dropping support, not because of smartphones/tablets, which seems to be the quickiest and easiest thing some people always jump to these days, to explain any and everything to do with sales.

And also, Wii U is more like the GC than Wii. If Nintendo had actually built on the Wii maybe their console wouldn't be selling like shit.

Good to see we have an expert on software development and PS4/One hardware.

Nintendo aren't the only ones that take their time, there have been numerous games delayed on PS4/Xbox One such as Driveclub, Watch Dogs, Dying Light and apparently Quantum Break.

Well most of them haven't been enough delayed then, seeing how they run on those platforms(Still scared to see how Watch Dogs will run on a Wii U...thought Ubi said they were fully onto it, while they just said they got approx 10 studios on Far Cry 4)
