I think the name, "Xbox One" says it all. Remember the reveal with good old Don? One to do this, One to do that. This is just an extension of that original vision which kind of got lost amongst the DRM fiasco of the time.

I'll be honest though I think investing in cable TV was a mistake. Cable TV is on it's way out, I think espicially with people who are involved with gaming. I still subscribe to cable TV but I haven't actually used it for a long time. The boxes are completely disconnected in my closet I watch everything off my HTPC. The guy who lives above me wants to get a PS4 but he's waiting for the media streaming features to return he doesn't have cable either.

You will be surprised how many gamers are fathers and husbands. You do know people of my age have been playing video games before Nintendo started to make consoles, so yes there is a big world out there and you know what, theres plenty to go around.

The only reason why Microsoft is in the gaming industry is because Sony was always planning to be the all around multimedia hub of the living room. Look at Windows has accomplished with multimedia. They don't like people taking over what they consider their territory even when they are on other mediums. They considered their growth during the PS1 era a threat to the PC market. MS didn't come into the industry primarily for the sake of gaming. They can pay others to make the games for them while the eat up living room marketshare.

But the X1 does streaming as well. Actually it does live TV, Streaming on Demand with a few cable companies and apps for the other content including their own. If anything, you have more options going with the X1 then with any current device.

Marketing.
The only time we hear about PS4 getting media features its usually in some random news or twitter.
MS announces their meda on stage as if the people going to those events care about watching TV. To add insult to injury its more expensive and technically weaker at least in terms of GPU, which is something gamers care about.
this is exactly what happened last gen to the same effect, PS3 had no gaemz its media features where irrelevant compared to the 360 which was touted as the games machine.

Thats the thing. The PS4 and other devices has the Netflix so that defeats the purpose of the X1.

Look how well that turned out. Forget what the fans say for a moment. PS3 got wrecked in its US launch. It seems MS forgot that gaming sold the 360, and that Sony remembered

Obviously MS plan is to take the whole living room. The fact that, despite wanting to do it with a console, it doesn't start from the games is due just to a silly accident: some exec at MS is reading the business plan upside-down. Or maybe Lardmer himself actually wrote it that way, either because he was under influence or he was pissed off about having to resign or both.
