Forums - Gaming - Making KH 1.5 and 2.5 HD as exclusives makes no sense

the problem with your "3" is that, like @wright said,KH3 will be a big budget AAA game, porting a game like that for a console that dont have the fanbase and (probably)the demographic is actually pretty risky(It's Square enix we are talking about! remember tomb raider?).add this with the fact that the Xone install base is(and probably will continue to be) smaller than PS4's and KH3 will sell 3:1(maybe 4:1).

Look MGS:GZ for example. It's a PS brand-related game made by japanese developers. It's selling(based on VGchartz) 3:1 and it's a SHOOTER(which usually is an xbox strong demographic genre).

I'm not saying KH3 will sell bad on Xone but Square enix(like any third party publisher/developer) have it's own projection.(again remember Tomb raider). And based on other JRPG and even other japanese games. It's very possible that Xone's will underperform.

But the HD remaster of Metal Gear made 600k units on 360! Hence why HD remaster makes more sense than KH3 on Xbox One D:

If the sales are just going to be 3:1 in PS3's favor in comparison to sales else where, there is just little necessity to put it on more consoles. SquareEnix screwed themselves up by trying to cater to 360 last gen, with every entry selling subpar, with only FFXIII making its money back for the development looking at sales. No need to make a PS4 version as PS4 will be able to play it with PS NOW feature by the time this comes out, and a PS4 version will add virtually nothing to it.

I would love it to be on Vita like FFX/X-2 tho.

First, the games have to be available digitally. Which seems unlikely considering there isn't a single KH game on PSN thus far. They probably can't distribute them because of the theme songs.

Edit: KH 3D isn't on eShop either. That uses the orchestral Simple and Clean for the theme.

Aren't Utada's Theme Songs commissioned work? I always was under the impression the song was specifically made for KH even if it was used on her CD. Maybe Japan does this sort of thing differently, but it would be strange if the theme song is the ONLY reason none of the KH games are digital. I just figured it had something to do with their timing before digital versions were a thing, and eShop just not being all that robust.

Why are we acting like this is your typical JRPG anyways? This is marketing and branded as a Disney game. That changes everything right there.

Because the vast majority of its customer base are Final Fantasy fans.

Thats quite a generalization, but its not exactly false.

Rereleases make perfect sense on the successor of the previous platform. There is no established market for these games on any of the current gen systems, and the cost of advertising would be a considerable detriment. With regards to that, expecting Nintendo to advertise a mutliplat is not realistic, Microsoft might but that is unlikely too. The only reason KH3 is even on XB1 is cause SE mismanging funds and trying to keep from being capcom.

It would lose money on any other platform, so it makes perfect sense as an exclusive. The issue is that unless SE ports 1.5 and 2.5 to the ps4, then it probably won't be playable because Disney has a contract that prevents KH from being sold digitally.

I did hear that Disney does not like digital distribution unless they are close to directly controlling it. Disney might feel it messes with nastolgia factors, of which their empire is based on. If Old disney films were just available digitally, how would they sell their Anniversary editions every few years? They purposely put a strangle hold on supply, to bolster the demand.

thats cool...for their movies not sure what that has to do with games. Not like they didnt just put Mickey Mouse and Ducktales digitally. IMHO I think this might be Square's doing, they never did put Crisis Core or either Star Ocean games on PSN. They seem selective.
