Forums - Gaming - This hurts to say, but I think that mobile does shooters better than consoles.

Controvercial, I know, but too true.

Now for clarification, I'm refering to controls, not the games themselves. And to clarify even further, I'm specifically talking about touch aiming vs the notoriously shitty analog aiming. Console shooter controls suck. They just do. That's pretty well known, but until now, I've always assumed that there was no other way to do it.

Then I played mobile shooters. It's literally depressing how much better they control. Now obviously, there are drawbacks to just having a touch screen for everything, but the persision you get is second only to a mouse. I'd even say it feels better than a Wiimote. Seriously, it feels that good. Now I'm actually considering getting a Steam Machine just for the controller. (and 3rd party games) It's like the perfect blend of a controller and the superior touch pad controls. I actually get what they were thinking now!

Seriously, if you have an iphone or android phone, just try Shadowgun (Gears of War mobile clone) or Blitz Brigade (Team Fortress mobile clone). They're both free. Once you get the sensitivity just right, you'll get what I mean. It's seriously insane and embarassing how superior the controls feel to your standard console controller.

Console controllers seriously need to start evolving again. I really do hope that the new Steam controller sets a new standard.

Well, maybe a bit, the controllers on the consoles are not very precise no matter how you slice it... a mouse + keybaord is better...

However, I don't think the simulated controllers on the touch screens are as good as console controllers as they try to emulate the first one, if you tried Shadowgun on the Ouya you would know that the controls are thight in spite of the touch screen controls, not because of it.

Touch aiming >>>>> Analog aiming every time.

I agree for moving in a 3D-world. I disagree for aiming. Mouse beats analogue sticks at aiming.

So, if a PS4 game had the option to use the touch pad for aiming that would be preferable?

Obviously it hurts to say it's the biggest pile of crap I read in awhile LOL.

Haven't tried it, but I have to say that Mouse+Keyboard easily wins against a typical console gamepad. Never tried Wii Remote controls, so I can't judge there either.

Well I'm going to be go against the grain and say that I think analogue sticks are better for that too.

I think it bears mentioning that I'm not saying that cellphones are more comfortable controllers than console controllers. They are still very uncomfortable, but the touch screen affords far more precision than an analog stick. Fact.

Yeah, I guess that's the closest thing on consoles so far to what I want. Basically the updated Steam Controller with a left analog stick is what I really want.

...

and by fact you mean opinion and by opinion you mean unpopular opinion that absolutely no one agrees with.

glad we could find some common ground here...
