Forums - Gaming - This hurts to say, but I think that mobile does shooters better than consoles.

Everyone knows that the best way to play shooters is with a mouse and a keyboard. They don't call PC gamers the master race for nothing!

Perhaps you refer to the aiming mechanism by which moving a finger on the touch screen, anywhere, not in the simulated thumb stick area, will move the view and crosshair an proportional amount in the world, thus approximating mouse aiming
(where you move the mouse and the same thing happens in the game world, the view and crosshair is moved an proportional amount). In that case yes, it might feel precise, except your fingers are on the screen you know.
If you refer to the simulated thumb sticks, or whatever one calls those, the I don't see how.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Just aiming. Not the left analog stick.

In other words, my perfect controller would have a left analog stick and a right touch pad.

You wanted to say it's easier to target.
Indeed.

Touch screen controls annoy me to no end, especially if it's like a D-Pad or Analogue stick that  are on the screen like this:

Your fingers eventually move off the "control area" because there is no surface feedback, it's frustrating playing Nintendo 64 games on my tablet because of it. :P

pretty well sums up what i was going to says.

...the "mobile shooters" i played had controlls very similar to consoles except the analogs were complete trash due to exactly what you said,. with no feedback from the controller you can't stay on the control area.

now if "mobile shooters" are starting to use a control scheme close to that of metroid hunters on DS,..  than this thread is even more laughable because that was the most broken-ass terrible control scheme ever put into a game since the early days of the n64 when developers had no clue how to do things right.

Controvercial, I know, but too true.

Now for clarification, I'm refering to controls, not the games themselves. And to clarify even further, I'm specifically talking about touch aiming vs the notoriously shitty analog aiming. Console shooter controls suck. They just do. That's pretty well known, but until now, I've always assumed that there was no other way to do it.

Then I played mobile shooters. It's literally depressing how much better they control. Now obviously, there are drawbacks to just having a touch screen for everything, but the persision you get is second only to a mouse. I'd even say it feels better than a Wiimote. Seriously, it feels that good. Now I'm actually considering getting a Steam Machine just for the controller. (and 3rd party games) It's like the perfect blend of a controller and the superior touch pad controls. I actually get what they were thinking now!

Seriously, if you have an iphone or android phone, just try Shadowgun (Gears of War mobile clone) or Blitz Brigade (Team Fortress mobile clone). They're both free. Once you get the sensitivity just right, you'll get what I mean. It's seriously insane and embarassing how superior the controls feel to your standard console controller.

Console controllers seriously need to start evolving again. I really do hope that the new Steam controller sets a new standard.

I hope to God this is a joke thread.

googled it...  first two reviews i found:

1.  "Touch screen controls as they are today are far off from mimicking the precision of a controller or mouse, but being able to adjust your control positions does make it a little easier, and most of all, more comfortable to play with."  source

2. "There are two major problems we have with Shadowgun: DeadZone right now. The first one is the controls, and we actually have this problem with pretty much any other real-time action game that uses a virtual joystick and action keys. Playing such a game on a touchscreen is a pain in the neck (and in other places as well), which is a shame, because this is a game that can be tons of fun if it could just be played comfortably."  source

as much as i hate to be right all the time,.  i do love rubbing it in peoples faces.  ;)

Now this is really surprising.

I don´t  play on mobiles often, but I tried a few fighting, racing and fps games and I personally find all of them terrible to control. But I know people that actually like to play using the touch controls rather than playing with regular buttons. I just don´t feel that they´re responsive enough, but maybe it´s just that I really can´t cope with them because I have long and large fingers

Anyway, its up to anyone to choose which input method they adapt better. If you fell good with it, then enjoy the games and just have a good time. This is what really matters, after all. And there are some real good games on mobile

You know about the DS/3DS?

Hahahahahahahaha sry sry hahahahaahahaha ok ok im done but I bet if a controller and a mobile controller faced each other the the one with the reg controller would win

Analogue sticks > everything else.

+1 for mouse and Keyboard. You would get the percision you're seeking and still be able to play games worth playing instead of the on rails mobile games.
