The difficulty in games actually still remain, but in a different area altogether.

Single player games are no longer what they used to be. SP has become the mode that people go to relax without having to overcome any hurdles. That's why you see all these crutches and options that essentially beat the game for you.

The real difficulty now is in the Multiplayer aspect of games where you are put up against the world and you learn through getting your a$$ beat. I remember when I first got Call of Duty MW2 (my first COD), I went online thinking I'll be able to beast, but I got my candy backside whooped so hard I had to call for mama. If I even got 1 kill and 10 deaths a game, I would be so happy. Eventually after practicing over and over, learning how to aim, understanding the maps and strategies, now I can pretty much decimate all the noobs that come online to play FPS.  MP is like the old days where you have to get abused to get better. Only difference here is that you are being owned by other human beings rather than AI.

Pretty good point there. Being an avid player on battle.net with the custom games and all, I remember the days I got my ass handed to me in a number of vs games. Even in the ones where everybody plays on the same team (i.e. castle defense TD etc) I sucked.

I have no problem with it, let everyone be a winner. if you want to feel accomplished by all means ignore the suit. I'm sure nobody using the suit gets any special completion awards but it does stop them from breaking there disk and saying "FUCK VIDEO GAMES"

The fans of the industry is the more the merrier. all gamers that contribute the skilled the average and the weak are all equally important to keeping gaming alive.

This is the right attitude. Getting too frustrated too soon is a good way to turn a future fan off permanently.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Maybe it is important that nintendo don't give them the profile stars, or any trophy like thing.
I really don't care, in single player or co-op multiplayer.

Oddly enought, i hate MMORPGs that are too easy. The fact that every NPC has a great piece of gear to you, or no characteristics point distribution just freaks me out. In the past a MMORPG was a place to explore on your own, now it is a guided tour.

On a side note:
There was this interview, on july, where Iwata speaks about why the games are easier. They have conducted tests over the past few years with the original super mario.

This year, around 90 percent of the test participants were unable to complete the first level of Super Mario Brothers. Around 70 percent died to the first Goomba. Another 50 percent died twice. Many thought the coins were enemies and tried to avoid them.

I have to say this is just too weird and i didn't found a reliable source.

This just means they can make the games harder for those who want to play it the legitimate way. So I am for it, because when it comes to video games I'm a greedy bastard and only care if I get enjoyment out of it. I don't care if kids are bored because they use the suit all the time, or that they didn't earn it. They're not my problem.

Haha that guy on youtube just doesn't understand the business side of the gaming industry ..... he obviously spend way to much time playing video games. It's not like the white tanooki pop up after one failure and for most gamers the white tanooki suit would be cheating and will just ignore it. But, for casual player where the option is between get frustrated and stop playing or using the white tanooki suit it's actually very useful.

Hardcore gamers must understand that super hard hardcore games would only sell to a small non-profitable niche.

I love the white tanooki suit it allows Nintendo to increase the difficulty level that make me love the game without losing the casual market. Personally, I would never use it, but if my girlfriend, sister or my nephew are playing, I can tell them just wait for the white tanooki suit it will get you pass that area your struggling with right now

Yeah, because "back in the day" (a phrase he uses WAY too much) people didn't ever use cheat codes to make games easy mode. (up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right,b,a,start.) This just cuts out the middle man for people that would get an action replay or game genie.

I think its fine...there have been times in games (albeit never a mario game) where I've become stuck and just got all the fun sucked out of playing for me, to the point where playing the game was just a chore until I could finally beat the stage and just move on. If I became too stuck, I would simply stop playing the game...for a very long time. While I personally wouldnt use an item like this (too proud or something) I can see its appeal if it helps people get past the sections they don't think are fun and back to the sections they do think are fun. After all, at the end of the day, the point of playing a game like mario is to have fun and if you are a kid stuck on one level for a week, the game stops being fun.

I see where hes coming from about removing the challenge in games but if you are the type of person who loves over coming tough challenges, simply don't use the item and if you are a kid who over uses the item, well you just suck in general, its not the game's fault

(>.> i kid i kid)

EDIT: to answer the poll question, no, i think he approached this in a pretty crappy, argumentative way that made him come off as a jerk instead of being a sincere guy with an opinion

Thread title says it all.

Not if you think of it from a business point of view. IF they suck and keep losing they will stop playing the game and video games in general and you will sell less hardwares and softwares. Nintendo as build Mario 3d world  with a pretty easy world 1 and 2 the difficulty doesn't crank up till the later world.

World 1-2 easy

World 3-6 medium

World 7-8 medium/hard

This thread is having some sort of strange reverse effect on me.

It makes me want to play 3D Land again.

Heh, coincidentally I watched that video only moments ago, and when I saw the thread title; I thought this would be the subject.

I kind of agree with him, it is a stupid idea, but on the other hand, the platforming itself doesn't get any easier because you can still die from falling and it's optional. I too think the super-guide as in Galaxy 2 was a better idea, that was actually fair and useful.
