Makes me think of "tree falls in the forest and no one is around" question. If someone cheats or short cuts in a single player game and you never know how does it affect you?

I think every game should start with "How often do you play games?" prompt and you select.

1. I am new or confused by games; or just want to watch the story (Very Easy)
2. I am learning, but I still have issues (Easy)
3. I am competent at game (Normal)
4. I am well versed and skilled (Hard)
5. I am someone who enjoys a challenge (Very Hard)
6. I am a masochist (Nightmare or Dante Must Die or Whatever)

Along with regular difficulty aspects this could have or remove all prompts and tutorials so gamers get that old school feel. Gaming, to me, should be inclusive to all type of gamers in regards to familiarity and skill level.

So much elitism.
Nobody is forcing you to use it, so it harms nobody.
People who aren't as skilled at games should not be deprived of getting to the next part of the game.

That's why I don't play Mario anymore. I don't have a problem with easy games for people without skills. I just ignore them, and play games like Super Meat Boy instead. Now THAT game will put hair on your balls.

There's lots of games developed for people with actual skill. You just have to find them. I think the people who bitch about Mario are older gamers like me who remember the NES games being so much harder to beat. It's not that they hate Nintendo. It's that they LOVE them, and want them to make games really challenging again.

Admittedly, as someone who grew up with the SNES era, I was not exposed to the cruelty of the NES era until I explored it retrospectively in my late teens, but I find it easy to just refuse to use the super guide.

If people are good enough, they can make their own challenges without the Super Tanooki suit. You're overanalyzing the game. Giving help != keeping someone weak.

Also, the Super Tanooki Suit doesn't appear in the Crown World Levels. I would know, I died a lot finishing them.

I disagree. As an artist, my job is not to cater to people but to create what I want and make sure my vision, whatever it is, is as realized as humanly possible. If I want to make a game for the elite, top skilled player? I should be able to do that and not have to code baby mode in.

I think we should just have games like Candy Crush and then games like Ikaruga. I don't like the idea of dumbing someones game down.

Games have to be more practical unlike art though, if people don't can't get into the game because of the learning curve then ultimately it hurts gaming as a whole as it turns people away, not everyone out there is looking to be an over the top hardcore player many are just playing just to chill out. The's also the topic of are games easier because they're dumbed down or because it's a combination of things like players becoming better, more complete and realized game design etc... Many games of old were hard because of design flaws or the simple case of a limit to the number of lives, you lost on a level a few times you go back to the start of the game giving you little chance to figure out the best approach where as today you just do the level again until you get the hang of it.

But if there's Mario 3D World, Candy Crush and Knack...then those people won't walk away. I'm talking about the idea of making games like Super Meat Boy easy for the sake of people who aren't good at games. I don't believe in that. I believe there should be games for gamers like us, who have been playing games forever and then other games for people without much skill.

I don't want ALL games to be easy because if you do that, you lose the most loyal, undying people you have which are core gamers.

The problem is what the OP is complaining about is not actually making the game easy for anyone who doesn't use the option, the game's intended difficulty and all remains intact it's just a simple case of ignoring the power up which I think is a great way to go about it, lesser players can go about learning how to get through by themselves this way with out affecting other players it just makes them invincible from enemies. What you're saying is a different approach altogether.

... I really don't see the problem with optional cheats.

If you can't help yourself from using them. That's on you. Not the creators.

It's really not any different from "Save scumming" which... if that's what your doing. The only one losing out is you.

Now the way kids are raised now a days, everybodies special, you can do ANYTHING, etc... sure.

Videogames aren't supposed to impart philosophical world beliefs and values though.

Videogames are supposed to be fun.
