For once in his life, Matei is right. The hand-holding is getting ridiculous in modern games, i find it condescending. The problem here is that children don't, as they have no concept of the word and then get used to shit like this which then moulds future videogames due to no one speaking out against it.

Hand holding is the wrong word.

Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Brothers were hand holdy games (lead you by the nose, overexplain everything)

3D Mario Games (speaking from my experience with both Galaxys and 3D World) leave you the fuck alone after the obligatory tutorial (especially Galaxy 2 and 3D Land by the same team)

Well you're right, i left Dream Team half way because the tutorials were just ridiculous. In this instance it's more of a "being rewarded for being bad" sort of thing. Doesn't exactly set a good example though.

I'm his age and from his generation and I agree. Anyone over 30 has a mental skill set that the early 20 somethings, teenagers and kids will never have. We didn't HAVE walk throughs, the internet, super guides or anything else. Most of our games gave a set number of lives, or continues, and if you lost them, that it...you're done. Can you imagine an 8 year old who's only ever seen an Xbox or Wii-U having to play Contra without the Konami code? Imagine forcing him or her to get to stage four before quitting. You'd see a total break down and they'd likely just give up crying.

Having said all that...there's nothing we can do. Games have gotten soft and gamers have as well. Times change, and that's just reality. There's still hard games out there, but they aren't Nintendo games. I guess that's what I'd tell Mike if I were talking to him. I'd say "If you hate easy games, why are you playing modern Mario?".

the REAL greatest generation!

So much elitism.
Nobody is forcing you to use it, so it harms nobody.
People who aren't as skilled at games should not be deprived of getting to the next part of the game.

Yet, you find trophies to be the abomination of gaming.

Funnily enough, global achievements/trophies are worse at hand-holding.

Non-achievements, like completing the intro level, or general tasks that are required to progress the story, are now labeled as accomplishments. This is truly making  "everyone a winner".

The white tanooki suit is more of a humiliation, you die enough times in a row and the game is telling you that you simply aren't good enough and throws you a bone.

Why should there be a problem with them easing the new generation in? It's like saying our ancestors didn't have electricity so lets all live in caves, just because it was different for us older lot doesn't mean it has to be the same forever. This brings in more gamers which is good so let it continue.

It won't bring in more gamers though as they will just avoid any game without god mode handed to them for failure, which is pretty much none of them.

You basically admitted it brings in more gamers.

You basically admitted you cannot read.

My reading is fine, you basically said nothing that disproves what I said all you said is that they'll avoid harder games.

I guess mike should "disgusted" with the warp pipes and magic whistle for existing anywhere near his glorious hardcore presence. He did not mention that you can't 100% the game with the the suit, but I guess he was so "disgusted" with the suit that he forgot about that.

Its somewhat similar to what they did with DKCR and New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Some people suck....so ya lol. Nintendo's trying to be more user friendly than they have been in the past.

Some people these days cant even finish the early levels of Super Mario Bros. on the NES.

These added features are going to make these people continue to suck.  On most games, if you suck and you die, you keep retrying until you get good enough to get past it.  You're continuously getting better.  I'll use another movie quote, this one from Colonel Trautman in Rambo 3.

"There was a sculptor. He found this stone, a special stone. He dragged it home and he worked on it for months until he finally finished it. When he was ready he showed it to his friends. They said he had created a great masterpiece, but the sculptor said he hadn't created anything. The statue was always there, he just chipped away the rough edges."

I was always amazing at video games so this quote doesn't represent me, but there are people who weren't very good and as they continued playing they got better.  If these people were just given the option to skipi the level pretty much instead of forcing them to stay there until they were good enough to pass it, do you think they'd actually get better at the game?  And this is the issue with games like this.  By continuing to make these games braindead easy, people are going to complain when there's any sort of difficulty in a title that's similar in gameplay.  Maybe Nintendo is doing this on purpose, to keep Nintendo fans purchasing only Nintendo games since other games are too difficult.

This is possibly one of the best things done in gaming. I wish all games would have something like this. But they should take it a step further and just add a god mode in the options of all games. I also wish they would add a button or something i can press to have the game play for me. Sometimes i just don't feel like trying and this would be a great way to enhance the fun factor in games.
