Hand holding is the wrong word.

Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Brothers were hand holdy games (lead you by the nose, overexplain everything)

3D Mario Games (speaking from my experience with both Galaxys and 3D World) leave you the fuck alone after the obligatory tutorial (especially Galaxy 2 and 3D Land by the same team)

Well you're right, i left Dream Team half way because the tutorials were just ridiculous. In this instance it's more of a "being rewarded for being bad" sort of thing. Doesn't exactly set a good example though.
