The way the site forums are on any site is just the way it is on the internet in 2013. Like it or not, the ridicule or hate/ digs we all give eachother brings up discussion. Discussion brings internet traffic. This site in particular 6-7 months ago was very quiet. Only threads that went on were a few rumor threads before any next gen console was announced.
As Tretton said a few months ago, the core fans are your initial adopters and then it ripples down from there. The active forum users are the ones getting the info and help spread the word to the public via friends/family or whatever.
If you want a happy go lucky peaceful forum, it will likely get boring for a lot of users and people will go elsewhere. The way it is drives traffic. I'm sure more people surf and post here then last January because it's an exciting next gen launch.
I just love watching grown fan boys cry and to see how much crap they can make up, right now XBOX fan boys are incredible at taking a small bit of info and stretching it to crazy levels.
Sony fans, which I am proud of are incredibly relentless especially when we are doing well sometimes unbearably so.

OT: Some people who take great pride in their possessions need to find a way to express it and put others down. I grew up in a society that puts a ridiculous amount of value in the shoes you have on your feet and name brand clothing. It's silly when you think about it, but this is how some folks express themselves.
Sony fans I hate em' all. They make me cry, they steal my crops, they rob my house, they dirty my water supply. Sony fans are the bane of all my non-issue issues.
