Move over Drive Club? Forza Motorsport 5 preview (Xbox One)

  • Absolutely stunning visuals put PS4 Drive Club's graphics in the shade

  • Featuring legendary Ferraris and F1 cars - including the McLaren M23

  • Laser-scanned environments and 60 frames-per-second gameplay

  • Revolutionary tyre and physics mechanics

  • It is the racing game set to send shivers down Drive Club's spine.

And with Forza Motorsport 5 boasting visuals like these, it’s not hard to see why.

There are 29 confirmed cars set to feature in the game, including the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Pagini Huayra.

There are also – for the first time in the game’s history – open-wheel cars including the Dallara Dw12 Indycar and Formula One cars such as the Ferrari 312T2 and McLaren M23.

So far, there are four confirmed tracks – including Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Mount Panorama Circuit and Spa-Francorchamps.

The addition of the latter stage is likely to please Forza fans most. Nestled in the Ardennes countryside of Belgium, the 4.3-mile Spa track is home to legendary corners like 'La Source' and 'Eau Rouge' and has been one of the most requested tracks from fans since the Forza series’ beginning.

To ensure maximum authenticity, the environment has been laser-scanned and meticulously recreated at 1080p and 60fps. In comparison, the PS4 exclusive Drive Club looked remarkably last-gen - with muddy textures and the demo riddled with environmental 'pop up'.

Developers Turn 10 Studios have also overhauled the physics engine. Working closely with Calspan – the leading tire testing organization in the world – they have developed a completely new and unique set of tire data, including tests and parameters that have never before been utilized in racing games.

'Developing and improving the driving physics has, in many ways, become the central pursuit for the Forza Motorsport series,' said Forza Motorsport 5 creative director Dan Greenawalt.

'We are always chasing that perfect simulation where we can accurately recreate the infinite variables of driving in the digital world. At the same time, that pursuit is always tempered by the limits of what we know about the science of vehicle dynamics and the properties of high performance materials.

‘We are implementing truly cutting edge scientific understanding of tire physics, suspension geometry, and aerodynamics – we’re not implementing the recommendations of last year’s text books, we’re running the tests that will write the vehicle dynamics text books of the next several years.'

For the player, this boils down to new level of immersion and challenge each time they play the game.

Forza Motorsport 5 is an Xbox One exclusive released on November 22.

Wouldn't really compare Drive Club and Forza to be honest, they are trying to achieve different things. I'll wait for Gran Turismo on the PS4 to make the appropriate comparisons.

Nice title. Will get a lot of replies.

Lol British people. When will they ever learn.

Forza (Microsoft's flagship racer) should be able to stand on its own. No need for the PS4 comparison. The writer is looking for some of that flame war attention, eh?

The first rule of Drive Club is... look past the visuals. Hands on: Drive Club (PS4)

    • Enjoyable, well-balanced racing and intuitive gameplay mechanics
    • Graphics paled in comparison to Grand Turismo 6 and GRID 2, both of which are CURRENT gen titles
    • Demo showed game only 35 per cent complete, so visuals likely to improve

Lets be honest... you'll probably need to compare that with Forza6

Potentially, didn't they say they'd probably release an updated version of GT6 for the PS4 though? Although it's more likely we'll see GT7 utilize the PS4 better.

I would also like to know when was the last time the Journalist played Driveclub. Because the gamescom demo was gorgeous and looked nowhere near last gen. Both of these games looks far and away better then last gen. That is weird.

i think in the end both will look great. driveclub has it much easier to have a nice looking environment because it can use any street on this planet so that the developer will simply choose nice looking environments with many flowers and stuff (india will probably look awesome). they don't have to build the also in reality ugly looking laguna seca in their game and it will probably run with only 30fps so that there is much more power left for the graphics but forza has probably a bigger budget so that more people can work on the tracks in forza which will obviously help this game a lot.

I would like to point out Dailymail is considered a joke newspaper here in the UK and anything from there should be taken with a raised eyebrow.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
