A holiday price drop is all but inevitable at this point. They can make up a lot of ground with a blitzkrieg advertising campaign this winter spotlighting the new price point and game line up.

I'm highly doubtful of a price drop this year. Games + Holidays will already give the Wii U a boost, so it'd be better to it next year, preferably alongside MK8, to retain sales momentum and while production cost are lower.

How come this isn't a train wreck thread?

I agree that the holidays will give the Wii U a boost, but not enough of one. I figure with a price drop they'll be able to steal some potential sales from Sony and Microsoft. As a parent, a $299 price point with a packin game, is a lot more attractive than $400+.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

If games + holidays can't boost sales, then it really is doomed lol. Also, PS4/XO are launching so they're gonna sell out no matter what.

I would love it if each of the big three didn't need a gigantic kick in the balls for them to see some of the ridiculously dumb decisions they've made.... like Sony's $599 US dollarz and PSN hacking debacles, M$'s NextBox reveal turning into a Sony fan's wet dream, and Nintendo refusing to acknowledge that they are so far behind the times it isn't even funny anymore.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Then you offer no hindsight solutions to the launch and now you wanna send nintendo to their room with no supper.

What do you mean? I listed things Nintendo had done wrong, all they needed to do was not do those things. Do you want me to list more things that Nintendo could've done differently with the Wii U? There are a few left.

Also, you took those points out of perspective. I don't want Nintendo to make a console that is graphically powerful rivaling the PS4 and XBO. I said the name was awkward at first, now there is no reason to complain about it because they aren't changing it. And I never said Nintendo shouldn't of had the Gamepad. (Although it wasn't planned out well at all.)

How can you defend Nintendo on this when they've clearly done something wrong? The market isn't buying the Wii U, so there are obvious problems that Nintendo need to fix, if possible.

Sorry this took awhile, but I was meaning to reply... then I needed to hop off VGC for awhile to do something.

That's okay. Sorry I took you points out of perspective. I was genuinely asking so you know. I defend Nintendo in this because I don't like the alternative situations. You're proposal has good points but saying what NOT to do just isn't enough. Here's what I would do if i was going to solve the problems you proposed. (I'm not supporting these however, I still support Nintendo's decision-making)

Cheapen the touchscreen controller:
I would eliminate the following features EXCEPT for stereo and rumble. Without rumble ppl might have a coronary.
built-in front-facing camera
sensor strip
built-in microphone
stereo speakers
NFC
nine-axis motion detection via a three-axis accelerometer
three-axis gyroscope
three-axis magnetometer
rumble feature.

Change the name:
I could write a bunch of ideas but choosing one is harder. Force sounds like Four in ps4. Ppl associate sounds. 360 sounded like ps3.
Wii Force

Release games regularly and faster OS:
I can't solve this without canceling the november launch and breaking contracts with partners. Assuming I could keep 20% of the launch ports to wait for an April release. This is what i'd do.

April: New Super Mario Bros. U, Lego City Undercover, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Just Dance 4
May: Scribblenauts Unlimited, ZombiU. Rabbids Land, Monster Hunter.
June: Nintendo Land
July: Game & Wario
August: Pikmin 3
September: The Wonderful 101
October: The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
November: Wii Party U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
December: Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U.
January: Mario Kart 8
February: Bayonetta 2
March: Super Smash Bros.
April: Monolithsoft's X

Truth be told, I am actually happy with what the Wii U's sales have been. The 160'000 figure that was reported by Nintendo opened my eyes to just how bad the situation is, and I'm happy about.

Nintendo clearly messed up with their Wii U and they are deserving of having a horrible time with the console. Maybe not deserving of extremely bad luck, but bad sales are surely useful to teach them that maybe they should think before they go off and build another console. Because they obviously didn't think long and hard enough about this one. The Gamepad is too expensive, the name was awkward at first, the games haven't been available at all, the OS was extremely slow until they had you download and update (which didn't come until a few months after launch, to my knowledge.), etc.

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't drop the ball on their next console, because I do believe they'll have another. Just maybe not one as badly planned out as this one has so far.

Anyhow, what are your feelings on the Wii U's failure? Does Nintendo need to see how bad they are doing before they get better? I sure think so, but I want to hear your opinions as well. (Give an explanation for your post(s). It opens up discussion.)

I know you are entitled to your opinion but I don't understand why the console is hated that much. I mean honestly have you sat down and spent a great deal of time with the hardware. I think it is a well put together piece of tech. The problem really is that Nintendo has become synonyms with low priced entertainment. I didn't say poor quality or cheap made, but low price of entry and the wii u is just priced to high for many. I have mine and I love it just as much as I will love my Xbox one and ps4.

"I support the industry that's why I rock with all of the Big 3!"

I don't think there will be a price drop this year but first part of next year we will definitely see one as well as a bigger storage solution is my guess.

"I support the industry that's why I rock with all of the Big 3!"

I too am glad to see Wii U struggling because it will hopefully give them in the kick in the arse they need.

Nintendo have to learn that we won't put up with 9 months between major releases, and that they can't skate by on the bare minimum.

They deserve it for not getting the games out, but I wish the Wii wasn't such a huge success. I hate that console. The Wii U (as a piece of hardware) is much better.
