I think Nintendo's downfall was when they moved away from the Wii Mote. The GamePad was a step backwards.

The GamePad doesn't bring any excitement like the Wii Mote.

They need to pack the Wii Mote back in because it's superior to the GamePad

I kind of agree... the GamePad was really a bad choice but that's not the only isse with Wii U and not the the biggest one.

I agree pretty much 100% on this topic. It seemed like nintendo did everything wrong. I cannot find not one good thing about it and if I do it comes at a terrible price. Here is what I think they did wrong.

-Wii U is gamecube 2 not wii 2
Let's imagine Nintendo is making SNES. Now Nintendo came with a very controversial controller that was not seen as a true gaming controller to older gamers. The gamers wanted joysticks so Nintendo decided instead of evolving the NES controller and making the SNES controller  we know of today they make an Atari joystick like controller and try to get Atari's type of games. This is how I feel when I see the Wii U. They went BACKWARDS

-Wii U has that stupid Game tab
The idea of tv off play sounds good but is it really worth $100? What happens if I don't want to use the game pad? What if I think it is overpriced? Why can I not buy a Wii U without it? Why I am I forced to buy it? With Wii sure you had to buy a wii mote but at least it did not jack up the price to ridiculous levels. The system should allow us to play Wii U without even touching the Game pad

Also their games are more gamecube than anything else. Nintendoland is a failure because no one likes the game pad or the excessive use of Nintendo charters. Wii Fit U will fail because their is no reason to buy it. Same with wii party u. The only big hit right now on Wii U is NSMBWU and that is not a gamecube game at all. Wow I wonder what type of games they SHOULD be making now?

Edit: Also Wii U is a stupid name. I cannot think of any gaming system that had a worse name. *Thinks about worse names to be sure* Nope cannot think of any.

I cannot see how you are making this comment. Unless you were told in a pm to get hits then comment on every post.

The wii U sales are not good at all. You just had your eyes opened? After 8 months....

The whole point of this thread is that I'm pleased Nintendo has had bad sales. They weren't bad for the first few weeks, but quickly after the holiday they slumped horridly.

Do you think Nintendo deserves (good) sales when they haven't released games or had a console fumble it's OS right out of the gate? They messed up and weren't ready.

They need to straighten things out, and hopefully that'll happen now that the Wii U is doing so bad. Edit: Though it seemed like they've seen something, as we do actually have games coming out starting next month. But will they be enough to hold people off till MK8?

Can we say that Nintendo mistakes with Wii U are comparable to Sony mistakes with PS3? I know it is too early to say that but I think most of mistakes are similar. The biggest difference is that Sony was too big with PS2 so the mistakes hurted less PS3 than what Nintendo are suffering with Wii U right now.

But I can't be out of my way too lol

It wont be as bad as PS3 for the company (It's a miracle that Sony contintued to support its very potential murderer) but it may be worse at convincing people to get one during its mid life. Wii U is basically a highly priced Wii with a failure launch. It has a minimal jump in graphics over PS3 like Wii was to Xbox and Gamecube.

If Wii U doesn't take advantage of its early years then it'll have a very difficult time competing with PS4 and maybe Xbox ONE.

Except that the Wii U isn't even a "Wii" in the 1st place which is funny

Why did they call it the Wii U? What is the 1st thing people think of when they talk about the Wii? Motion Controls and the Wii Mote! That is what the name "Wii" has become familiar with. Now the Wii U isnt even really a motion control system anymore

The Wii U should've been called the "GamePad U" or something like that

The Wii U is not a Wii so i dont know why they even used that name but since it's already the official name, they should go ahead and bring the other piece of the pie back(Wii Mote) so people wont be confused

People were clearly excited to get their hands on the Wii U during its launch but when everybody realised that the Wii U was not actually a "Wii" people left it alone

Everyone could see that the casuals would not bite again - everyone except Nintendo.

I look for sales to pick up when games start coming out. Pikmin 3 helped in Japan after all and that has actual data to back it up.
Some of your comments are clearly ban worthy. Stating unreleased games have already come to late is baseless with no merit. You cannot provide proof to back up a claim that unreleased games had no impact when they aren't out yet to see what impact they do have.

People justify trolling all the time. Doesn't make it excusable.
If I pointed to Sony selling their own HQ, studios closures, stoke going to junk status, as my reasoning behind Sony going 3rd party I would still be banned. Some of us don't get the chance to state why we believe something or defend our position, they are just dismissed out right.
I haven't said a single thing about Sony that cant be backed up with actual facts yet I have still been banned and gotten some extremely childish and immature messages/comments from the mod.

Bias people are just never able to see bias..

Are you saying it does not really matter when key games are released?

Do you think Sony and MSFT have invested a large fortune in 1st, 2nd and 3rd party games to have ready for their new console launch just for the heck of it when they could have spread the same games out over the 18 months following their new console launch like Nintendo is doing and it would be ok- or at the very least it would not seriulsy effect the future of their respective consoles?

I think everyone agrees that software sells hardware- if you release hardware but wait 6 months, a , 18 months etc to release software the relevance of that hardware will shrink as every day goes by- and the release of the key software will have a diminishing return for many reasons- otherwise all the console makers would release their consoles w whatever games they happen to have ready at the time and hope for the best - which would get the fired unless they are Nintendo execs

I think it's just simply the fact that it's NOT much wrong with the Wii U. It's really only 2 things. The price and that GamePad

For me, The Wii was somewhat able to disguise the fact that it didn't have the main 3rd party games. There was a good number of games on the Wii that weren't made by Nintendo that interested me. I'm not seeing the same from the Wii U.

Lets say that imagine how Mario Galaxy 3 would be with the GamePad. It would be fun but it would also be inferior to the Wii Mote.

I bet my life that if you set every Nintendo fan in a room with Mario Galaxy 3 and they had the option to play with either the GamePad or the Wii Mote , the majority will have evenually ended up playing the game with the Wii Mote!

They need to bring the Wii Mote back in action. I want all those games on Wii to have sequals on the Wii U but they can't because of the GamePad.

They can't even bring more House Of The Dead titles the same way they did because of the GamePad.

I'm still going to get the Wii U but i know for a fact that i'm going to go out my way to get an extra Wii Mote controller.

I remember EVERYBODY had to have a Wii back in 06. Even my aunt, grandma and little cousins(girls who dont really play games) wanted a Wii. Nobody seems to be talking about the Wii U this time around

It's like Nintendo just abandoned that market that they crafted with the Wii.

IThey need to make a sacrifice and pack the Wii Mote back in along with the Gamepad so all those games can start flooding the Wii U library once again

Nintendo can handle this sh!t

I don't think the lack of a packed in Wiimote/Nunchuk is making third parties refrain from developing games for the system and Nintendo's games usually support Wiimote/Nunchuk. Thus packing in an additional controller wouldn't change anything, except that either the system stays expensive or Nintendo loses more money on it.

However, Nintendo could put more focus on the Wiimote again and de-emphasize the Gamepad. For example, with Wii Sports 3. If they pushed a Wiimote required game, then it would make sense to bundle such a controller with the system. But packing it in now doesn't make any sense.

It doesn't make sense now but it will later on

It's the sacrifice that i was talking about. They can't just get rid of the gamepad like that so they should just pack the Wii Mote in along side it while bringing the price to 250.

It's a sacrifice but they will see success at the end of the day. I know damn well that the Wii Mote cant cost that much to make. What's the worst that can happen? People will "doom" Nintendo? It's not like it hasn't been heard before right?

The GamePad is not bringing anything worthwhile to Nintendos games. The Wii Mote needs to be packed in so that everybody has 1 and all the games built around it will sell like they did on the Wii

I want Nintendo to make the Wii Mote the main controller again before they start busting out the advertisements for the Wii U. Those "Wii would like to play" commercials were brilliant back then with the Wii Mote and they wont be the same without it

Truth be told, I am actually happy with what the Wii U's sales have been. The 160'000 figure that was reported by Nintendo opened my eyes to just how bad the situation is, and I'm happy about.

Nintendo clearly messed up with their Wii U and they are deserving of having a horrible time with the console. Maybe not deserving of extremely bad luck, but bad sales are surely useful to teach them that maybe they should think before they go off and build another console. Because they obviously didn't think long and hard enough about this one. The Gamepad is too expensive, the name was awkward at first, the games haven't been available at all, the OS was extremely slow until they had you download and update (which didn't come until a few months after launch, to my knowledge.), etc.

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't drop the ball on their next console, because I do believe they'll have another. Just maybe not one as badly planed out as this one has so far.

Anyhow, what are your feelings on the Wii U's failure? Does Nintendo need to see how bad they are doing before they get better? I sure think so, but I want to hear your opinions as well. (Also, try to have an explanation for both sides. It opens up more discussion.)

I'm mixed on the poor sales.

I'm hoping it results in a ton of great and amazing games for the Wii U from Nintendo and soon that I want like Zelda, Metroid, ect.

I'm praying it doesn't result in trying to replicate the WIi by focusing on Wii Fit, or other casual things that seem to have made it a huge sucess.

They could go either way.  One good thing about struggling though is that they will step it up and try to do something big and quick to turn it around.

Nintendo major problem with the Wii U is they thought 3rd party ports and EA's unprecedented support would get them through the game drought .

There second problem is wanting backwards compatibility. So they spend more time tweaking/creating custom design hardware instead of going for ff the shelf modern stuff which would have cost more.

I agree the gamepad cost them a lot too. However I like it, but they didn't show people like they did with the Wii U, why they want the gamepad.

I dont think there was anything special to show about the GamePad and it also has been proven since not many developers have attempted to make games based around the GamePad like the Wii Mote

The gamepad has lots of potential other than playing off tv. Did yuo relaly expect ports and the lack of other 3rd party support would magiclaly create something wonderful?

Also look at the Wii Remote, how many developers truly did anything with it that wasn't waggle controls in the last 6 years?

Wait, they don't already include a Wiimote with each Wii U? Not even the deluxe? Uber strange that is, as in order to play local multiplayer games they are needed, and just look at some of their games. NSMBU, Nintendo Land, SM3DW, Pikmin 3, DKCTP, and MK8. All local multiplayer, and they all don't really do anything special with the gamepad minus Nintendo Land. I think they'll have to market the Wiimote at some point if their own games don't even use the gamepad in a significant way.
