I have  a feeling that a lot of consumers will look at the two relatively similar systems, and then buy the one that costs $100 less.

that pretty much sums it up.

...riderz has that sig saying "ps4 is shaped like an eraser for erasing the xbone"  and i feel like its true.  the xbone revealed to the world no longer exists.  i have a feeling a kinect-less sku of the xbone will be coming at a lower price too soon enough.  the ps4 and xbone will be almost identical in every imaginable way except that ps+ is $10 cheaper than live and includes dozens of free games a year while the xbone has tv in.

Just want to throw in there that the games can be kept even if you go back to silver, unlike +.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Console power is not really an advantage so far the most powerful console has never won of course the PS4 could change that.

The PS1, SNES (Neo Geo was a lot more powerful and expensive), NES and Atari 2600 didn't get that memo either.

"has designed the PS4 from the ground up for small-team development."

The PS4 and Xbox One are x86 technologies. How on earth is one "tailored" for small-team development?

Well I'd assume this is referencing the simple ram solution where you just have one large pool of fast ram instead of a larger pool of slow ram with a small pool of faster ram.  According to Cerny this was one of the ways they tried to make development simpler which would probably help smaller teams more than larger.

Except not only are small teams already versed in the PC RAM setup, but a unified structure would require extra regulation so that the CPU and GPU could not access a piece of memory at the exact same time. It has the potential to cause a hardware deadlock. This is why you're most likely going to see that, while both CPU and GPU use the same memory, it's going to be accessed the same way a PCs is, only that you're able to shift the partition between resources, much like dynamically assigning GPU allocatable RAM for onboard video in the BIOS, only the game would specify it.

a point that would be a lot more relavant if MS's free games actually extended onto the xbox one instead of just a promotional event to end the 360 on.

More like 3: Price, Europe, and Japan

Nothing else matters.

correction:

THE ENTIRE WORLD, except the UK and US, and it has a price advantage on the entire planet that video games are sold....

that and if you look into rumors, spec wise xbox one is inferior

and the esram situation would affect xbox one stock significantly as opposed to demand

Well thats just not correct. Xbox is prevailent in countries beyond US and UK, just less in number compared to PS. But even then mainland europe and japan are the biggies. So really, to make things as simple as possible: Price, Europe and Japan.

I really take issue when people say "inferior" spec wise. As if that impacts quality in the games. Please tell the Wii, DS, 3DS, and PS2 that they had inferior specs....like it matters. With the graphics level Xbox and PS have at this point, it isn't going to be big at all, multiplats will be more or less similar anyway.

So really, the rpice, and Sony brand power are its main weapons, the only ones that matter. Like the mass market person reads into specs and esram lol

I dunno, if it were up to the mass market, they would only buy the iphone and not touch android

They also have more solid franchises to continue on walking into the next generation. Sony has create many great franchises this gen. Microsoft has to create theirs in the next gen and make them names or they are stuck in the same position as they are seemingly every gen now. The price and world-centric status of Sony vs the American-centric status of MS makes this very easy. MS never made any current gen titles in this generation that stuck.

Sony could definitely win America back. Really, thats all they need to do to bring MS back to last gen level.

When we add it up:

- More exclusives

- Price

- Regional advantage

- Console power

That makes four.

Exclusives is one thing, but "more" exclusives is entirely subjective. Halo 4 outselling over 30 PS3 exclusives in 2012......its the big exclusives that make the system, not the sheer quanity that don't catch a big following on their own. Jus saying exclusives matter, but the number itself is arguable

Also...can we stop saying "power" is a plus? Because PS2, DS, 3DS, and Wii didn't get the memo.

Its just price and regional brand advantage. Thats pretty much it, but they are a big deal in themselves.

Microsoft can pay away for exclusives they don't own but Sony had them dead beat in new IP's and high rated exclusives. Perhaps I should've said first party IP. I'll concede that to you. :p

Doesn't matter who got the memo though, power is power. We saw this in PS3 exclusives using the cells power whilst at a disadvantage for multiplats. The PS4 will be the primary multiplat console since it was made along with third party developers ideals when Cerny contacted them.

The price advantage is just one advantage.

I trust Sonys ability to pump out enough IP that will survive and become names. Microsoft put out and bought out so many IP's and only Gears truly became a name. Crackdown probably but they dropped that. Those would be the only two. Crackdown is the only first party title they even bothered with. They said they will be trying to get Japan again so Perhaps they'll bring back LO and Blue Dragon into the new gen at Tokyo Gameshow. Sony has a lot more IP to show off at Gamescom because they have twenty exclusive IP's in the first year. They are MS will be having a showdown at Gamescom.

Isn´t these kind of comparisons useless until the consoles are released and we can compare them side by side? Seeing the UI, the games in action, the possibilities of the consoles themselves will be the real testament to their abilities.
