Seriously people, stop crowning the PS4 as the king of the universe before a single unit even hits shelves. Personally, I think people are going to be a LOT slower to upgrade this gen compared to last, and console numbers overall will likely take a hit. We'll see.

Even if they would not profit from Wii U and it's software itself, which I think they will, just like with Gamecube, they always have their handhelds to cover up all the loses, and potential home consoles that flop.

Honestly, why would anyone want any particular console to completely dominate an entire generation? It reduces competition thus price, thus innovation, bad for everyone.

my 2 cents: PS4 will take back gamers hearts back to Sony, were it was in the PS2 era, with their next gen console pushing over 100 million units till a successor arrives. Xbone will be remembered as the console for rich people, with fast internet conections, pulling similar numbers as their first machine: 24 million. Microsoft waves goodbye from the console business and purchases some other more effective solutions for living room dominance like Apple TV and such. Mattrick is either fired or promoted as VP of Lulz. Wii U will definetelly be remembered as the glorified Dreamcast, the frankenstein of the 8th gen, the new N64 that instead of being half generation better than competition, is a half generation worse. Or something like that. Pushing like 30 million units. Nintendo as usual still manages rack in a ton of profit nonetheless and will continue to do their shit like always. |

Its too early to tell. Microsoft can still fix their mistakes though they are unlikely to.
If things launch under these circunstances, the PS4 will be more sucessful for sure. The question is: How much?
Lets not rule out the Wii U yet though. It will have the advantage of price and a 4 million headstart. With mario and sonic and a prince cut later this year they could still be in the race, despite beeing utterly mutilated by everyone.
Definetely not. PS2 was cheap. The new consoles and games are expensive and casuals are not interested in them anymore. No more funky guitar games / easy motion games to keep them interested.Tablet/smartphone/pc gaming are on the rise again, while dedicated consoles sales are decreasing year after year.
I don´t think any of these 8th gen consoles will even reach 60 million units sold.
No, we're not. Not even close. We'll never see a home console generation with one machine getting 75% marketshare again, hell, I'm not even sure anyone will be able to reach even 50%.
The PS4 is not the new PS2, the market is vastly different and Sony' position diminished greatly since then.
Too early to tell, but I think it is possible. If Sony makes the right moves, PS4 can even get better than PS2. Both saleswise as well as marketshare.
We'll see, but it does look really good at the moment. If they announce some heavy hitters at TGS and Gamescom, they'll leave Microsoft in the dust at launch. But a console race is a marathon. So Sony will have to keep up the good work for the next years.
