Forums - Gaming - Are we in for another ps2 type gen saleswise ?

PS4 is the new PS2.

Yes 93 59.24%

No 63 40.13%

Total:156

I agree with all only this Microsoft waves goodbye from the console business.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I think it will look very PS2 like everywhere outside of America. PS3 dominated 360 in rest of the world being a year later, and hundreds of currency more. This time PS4 is cheaper, and will launch at the same time. Barring some terrible hardware failure, or network failure I don't think anything is going to change this.

I think in America it will be closer to 50/50 because that is how this country is, the good ol' DSA.

KBG29 on PSN&XBL

Ps-xO-wU (Market Shares)
50-25-25 at most
45-35-20 with a little push
40-30-30 most likely
10-80-10 and gaming will never be the same

No, I don't think so simply because the Ps4 hasn't shown yet any game that looks like a killer app.
The Ps2 had Gran Turimo 3, exclusive Final Fantasy X, exclusive GTA3, exclusive Metal Gear Solid 2 all in its first 1 and an half year.
The best the ps4 has shown yet are Killzone, Infamous (not really huge franchises) and Driveclub which looks good but it's nothing really groundbreaking.

Well that's not gonna happen but I do think has hit the right price point and ms will need to address that issue. I still expect xb1 to be number 1 in the us and uk while some stays strong in the rest of the world.

Just becuase there are a lot of PS3 fanboys on the web, doesn't mean it will materialize into real sales. If that was the case, games like God of War Ascension would have sold 2 million by now.

Fact is gaming in general is in decline. Why do people not see this as a major factor?

Casual gamers who adopted the Wii have moved onto tablet devices. And even hardcore games are not selling that well these days.

PS3 may be selling well now but have you ever thought to yourselves why? It certainly isn't the games because PS3 games do not sell better than 360 games, despite more PS3's being sold.

Regardless of the why's I do think the PS4 could still very much win next gen though, but its not going to hit anywhere near 100 mil units. This gen has gone on for far too long and I think it has hurt gaming overall.

Even if PS4 is the best selling console next gen, I cant see it selling more than 50 million units. XBONE would probably do around 30 mil. WiiU around 15 - 18.

I think a PS2-like generation is pretty much impossible. I dont think we will see another console dominate like that ever again.

I think it will end with a 45-30-25 split on marketshare, as a rough early guess. Nothing serious. Give or take 5%.

All 3 consoles will do relatively well. Only 1 will outsell its predecessor.

It'll be interesting, if the backlash spreads like a plague. Would M$ sell their Xbox brand, and to whom?  I can imagine a Google Playbox...
