So, the gap decreased by 2.8M this year alone - and the PS3 is still expensive. At the current PS3 price, the gap will be reduced by around 9M this year.

It's not like the WiiU has any next-gen competition at the moment so all shortcomings can be blamed on Nintendo, especially following the Wii's success.
If I need to be more specific: wrong concept for the console (tablet, asynchronous play), wrong focus ("core", or more like no one really), too expensive, no SW, etc.
Of course it's easy to say this in hindsight. But I don't know who else can be blamed but Nintendo really.

Considering PS3 had the best games at Sony's conference, and XBO and WiiU are not trending well, this may just be a possibility.
