Both the PS3 and the PS4 are looking to be the highest selling console of their respective generation and that is going to happen in the next few years.

Dude.  I get you're a PS4 fan, but can everyone quit it with the PS3 already!

So the PS3 will now sell another 25mil from here? It's sold 3.8mil so far this year. If we say another 5mil from here for the year, it needs to sell another 20mil from the PS4 launch. Possible, but unlikely.

And everyone said that the Vita had it in the bag. We don't know the launch date yet, or anything else about the launch for that matter, other than the base price, who knows what that includes.

It is fine... Sony prediction for the fiscal year is 10 million... so at end of March, 2014 the PS3 will be close to 87 million... only 13 million to match the 100 million milestone.

PS4 will probably lead next gen but i don't know if PS3 will last long enough to beat Wii not like it matters too much

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

It's not impossible. but only time will tell.

Indeed. 3.8M during the half of the year where sales are the lowest and while still being more expensive than the Wii at its launch.

Also, it only needs 22M.

The Wii hasn't stopped selling, you know. It's sold a cool million this year so far. So it surely has another 3mil left in it yet!

It's certainly possible. Depends on how far and how fast the PS3 falls off the cliff after this year.

I still hope that the Wii surpasses the PS1.  They should sell it to third world markets for a few years then when those markets finally get the Wii U they can still play all their Wii games on the Wii U!  The Wii should do pretty decent this holiday season.  I'm sure it will drop to $99 with both Wii Sports games bundled.

I don't know about PS3 (it's possible but nowhere near guaranteed) but PS4 is gonna win by default, since MS and Nintendo decided to commit mass suicide.

Okay, I'm curious. How did Nintendo commit suicide?

By building a console that is dependent on third party support for widespread success. I am still disgusted by the fact that Nintendo did this.

If it was dependent on 3rd party support then it would have included DRM.

The Ps3 won't end up beating the Wii. Let's be real. It's barely beaten the Xbox 360.

Win is such a strong word... by the end of this generation, the PS3 *may* break even, whereas the 360 will be a couple billion in the black... It would be hard to call Sony a winner.

PS3 is very unlikely to outsell Wii. Could happen but life after PS4 launch would have to be surprisingly robust. Normally 3rd world countries would keep up sales but with PS3 still hack-proof and dirt cheap Android systems coming out, I can't see it having the afterlife PS2 did in those territories.

I see where MS is trying to go but I don't think they've pulled it off (yet) and $499 is quite pricey (never mind the insane European pricing). I think PS4 will lead initially but MS might yet surprise (but I've little confidence in them). Nintendo needs to launch a new console to compete at this point. I'm still optimistic we'll see a proper Wii/DS replacement by 2015/6 that'll fully compete with PS4/XBOne.

Nope. But thanks for playing.
