I didn't think it was required as it was patently obvious to anyone who knows what they are talking about.

Your latter examples may be better, but your first one was silly.

im glad you now agree with me.

Considering you avoided my question, Ill take that as "Yes".

Microsoft and the Publisher should not get money for 2nd hand games. I should be able to sell Halo 4 to a friend. I shouldnt have to trade through a specified game store. I should be able to sell the product I bought to anyone I damn well please.

You can do it no? The thing is that your friend will need to activate the full game by paying a fee if I remember correctly and when he does so your game will not be playable anymore on your console...

Link?

The only rumors Ive seen are the ones about them taking the cut from a retailer. The retailer (GameStop, for example), sorts it all out, thus they are needed.

If I can sell my game to a friend and he only has to activate it then its not as bad. I guess that depends on the price of activation. It still sounds beyond sleazy though.

Id at least like to be able to sell my games to friends. Not being able to just lend them out is shitty, but meh.

How do you manage to sell those download only games?  Just askin'

Never see Steam's 50 million user complaining about not being able to trade in or sell their games. MS say they will actually give you the ability to do this with digital content, and somehow they're the bad guys. Makes sense

I dont own a physical copy of my download only games. I download them knowing I cant sell them on. This has always been the case, since the first game I downloaded.

I go to a store and buy a videogame knowing I can sell it to a friend or trade it in. This has always been the case, since the first game I bought.

Everyone complains about the cost of games going up gen on gen, MS puts in a solution that in the long term will drive down the prices like steam, MS still gets bashed.

Ok.

And how do you get to that conclusion? They had that option this gen, offer digital games at competitive prices to second hand games. Did not happen. Eliminating competition only makes the prices stay high longer.

Steam is a different beast, way more competition, different royalty system.

Steam is a different beast. It's had time to feed and grow. If Sony jumps on board, which given they had DRM this gen makes it likely not to mention the patent... The competition will change. More devs will jump on board, they'll sell more games new, get more money from second hand games thus getting more profit to make more games as other devs do, they drop prices as other devs would also. It's pretty win win... Are you a Steam user?

They have failed this gen with digital though in many areas is agreed. Though progress was still made and will be further made with the Xbox ONE.

I use Steam, never bought a grame for full price though. Only with big sales at less then $10 per game. That's less then the royalty MS and Sony charge for new games. The last full game I bought was The witcher 2 box edition.

Plus Steam is all digital so they can go lower. MS' system still has to keep shops happy that sell an (almost worthless) retail disc.
Steam has competition from other digital sellers, plus you can buy games direct from the publisher. On console you are resticted to one portal.

They won't sell more games new, a lot of new game purchases are funded by trade ins. Restrictions and taking money away from there will affect new game purchases.

It's only good news for Steam, since there won't really be a difference anymore between physical and digital, people will choose the cheapest option. Steam can easily go lower then where consoles can go. I became a console user for the convenience and actually being able to still own my games. I might as well go with a Steam box if both next gen consoles take game ownership away.

And no it hasn't been like this with pc's. They have had product keys for 20 years, but they unlock the game with no further restrictions. You could install them as many times as you like. Games like Unreal and Half-life even let you run it simultaeneously on 4 networked pc's per 1 product key. I have played tons of pc games in LAN with only 1 disc. Only since Steam and online drm has the pc market been locked up.

Steams 50 Million users dont complain, because the majority of games bought on Steam are bought in sales. Theyre bought for $5-$10. AAA games are bought for bargain prices a few Months after release. Theyre not $60 and you dont have to pay a $50 per Year sub fee to play them online.

They see Steam for what it is - a fantastic service that doesnt screw the consumer.

You know it is technically illegal to lend games and movies to your mates already right?

All that post needed was a "reported". Would have been golden.

Where did they say that? I've only heard rumors for re-selling disc's with a lot of restrictions.
It would be great if they allow a real money auction house for all digital game licenses. Put your digital game up for sale when you're done with it. Have they announced anything like that?

you missed the fact that you don't have to buy a 500 or so euros console to have steam on it, you don't need to buy access to the steam service, it's a completely free download for anyone who already owns a PC. Xboxone is not a free service downloadable to a PC or other system... it's a massive investment that a new console has always been but now it is coming without one of the biggest perks consoles always had over PCs.
