The only rumors Ive seen are the ones about them taking the cut from a retailer. The retailer (GameStop, for example), sorts it all out, thus they are needed.
If I can sell my game to a friend and he only has to activate it then its not as bad. I guess that depends on the price of activation. It still sounds beyond sleazy though.
Id at least like to be able to sell my games to friends. Not being able to just lend them out is shitty, but meh.
