Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE,It's Gonna Play used Games all of a sudden

Just a thought - If MS is going to get a cut on 2nd hand as well at retail stores, that means effectively the average price for second hand will increase. If it is not reinforced by some sort of DRM (that is, when you buy the game second hand, you get no voucher code to install it on your XBOX One), then this will create a huge black market. Remember, all games must be fully installed on the Xbox One regardless.

There just has to be some electronic DRM in the chain for this concept to work and it will mean an average higher price for second hand games.

Physical game boxes are no license. I'm not talking about downloads but the physical copies of games. Otherwise my notebook would be license too because it runs software and is useless without it.

Being common and old doesn't make things wrong - go say that to your grandma. I don't use windows btw I'm using a UNIX based OS

You pay like a few cents for it  to be put on a disc and in a plastic box. The data is still licensed. They could also implement a way to delete the data on your discs, it would still be legal because you only have a license to use it.

Common and old may not be wrong, but it shows that people haven't cared for many many years.

but y implement DRM at all on retail hard copies and again MS is focusing on US, there are several places where gamestop doesn't even exist and gamers rely on selling or exchanging their game with each other, so this will kill that trade completely and will also raise the price high for second hand games. how is this DRM helping anything except helping MS and Publisher getting richer.

Also there Publishers release yearly title Fifa, COD and many of US trade in the old games in that series for a new one, this will reduce, further reducing the sales of the said title.

So Basically MS gets a fee from authorized retailers, u come home with ur copy put it in the system and MS ask for a fee again to activate it. This is just sad. This time MS is telling the same story but in different context.

NOTHINGS CHANGED

If they would halve the price for their games, I would be ok with not owning the game anymore.

Keeping (raising) the price of game disks as is but removing the rights to re-sell / exchange / lend is just bad, no matter how you look at it.

And this comes from a guy who never resells his games ;)

Everyone complains about the cost of games going up gen on gen, MS puts in a solution that in the long term will drive down the prices like steam, MS still gets bashed.

Ok.

You know very well this isn't what's making gamers complain.

I know, anything MS related is. The device I'm using to type right now is online 24/7, the Xone is not. Steam, offers only new games at discounted prices because they can, there is no second hand market to compete with... The internet has blown this out of porportion without thinking. That, is what I see.

What pissed us gamers off about blocking used games policy is the inability to share our video games with friends. A second issue is the fact that you have to play them digitally using ONE account. Perhaps it goes well with the system's name.

With Xbox ONE, you're basically "renting" a game at full price, and letting Microsoft watch you at least once every 24 hours. This, we think, is total bullcrap! And this is only the beginning of it. If we don't react, things may get even worse. Duh!

You think MS won't have a system in place? You deactivate it on your console, you get a code that must be used to unlock the game on another... See, everyone speculates about negatives on the internet all the time and everyone gets caught up in it. PC's have been doing this for years..... I remember opening up WarCraft 2, it could have been StarCraft actually on PC nearly 20 years ago and having to enter a code that locked it to a single PC... You're all overreacting. This could have happened gens ago. Grow up Internet.

Still rules out individual selling, making us go through stores who will us fuck all for our old games. But it's like microsoft hasn't any idea what it's on about, there are many conflicting reports now

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Would people complain this much if the Xbox One just went all digital?

The discs just save time compared to downloading games.

All Digital is EXACTLY WHAT MICROSOFT WANTS. No used games, automatic DRM, AND the Steam Aura Of Invincibility on bad press related to those two.

Ok.

And how do you get to that conclusion? They had that option this gen, offer digital games at competitive prices to second hand games. Did not happen. Eliminating competition only makes the prices stay high longer.

Steam is a different beast, way more competition, different royalty system.

Steam is a different beast. It's had time to feed and grow. If Sony jumps on board, which given they had DRM this gen makes it likely not to mention the patent... The competition will change. More devs will jump on board, they'll sell more games new, get more money from second hand games thus getting more profit to make more games as other devs do, they drop prices as other devs would also. It's pretty win win... Are you a Steam user?

They have failed this gen with digital though in many areas is agreed. Though progress was still made and will be further made with the Xbox ONE.

they wont be selling more games as used games will likly be a much higher price due to publisher/platform cut cuts

used games this way will remeain expensive, i dunno about you but many titles i like picking up cheap especially titles i would have never bought new

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Ms and game makers should get a little money from used games

Picture this.

You go out to buy a new car and see a snazzy new Aston Martin going for £50,000. You buy it.

5 Year down the line, you decide you want something new. Youre bored of your Aston.

You put your car up for sale for £35,000 and someone buys it.

Would you send Aston Martin a £10,000 cut from your £35,000?

No.

Prices will go higher possibly for the short term, MS is trying to stamp out the used-games market entirely... You missed the point there.
