What i find amazing is that they think they are entitled to selling the same copy twice without paying for it. The retailer pays me for that copy. If their cut becomes 3.5£ wich is about 5 euro/dollars we are gonna get about 1-2 euro/dollar for our used copies effectively trivializing the deal. This move does one thing only: it kills the used game market.

The reason wh microsoft isnt giving us confirmation is because they wanted to quietly push this under the rug. What they are trying to do is criminal and i hope it ends badly for them.

this is a fact, all this kill the used game market.

34 years playing games.

Lots of text...does this mean that xbox 1 is awesome now?

Hardly. And for the record, this is not the only thing that's not making the Xbone "awesome" or anything close to it.

Ms and game makers should get a little money from used games

Yeah still doesn't let other borrow or try out games.

Have to trade in to major retailer now, who will likely give you even less than now because they don't want to cut profit margins.

Still sucks.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

I read all of those text carefully and all I can say is..

... this is going to be a huge mess for consumers and retailers.

we all know for sure that the console will run used games, but how exactely it will work is still subject of a LOT of guesswork. It seems that even Microsoft still don´t know what to do with the matter

Why do they need to get a cut after the first sale in the first place?

Why?

I'm a writer. If someone buys my books used I don't get shit. If someone lends the book from a friend, I also get nothing. But I think that's ok. And you know why? First, I can live from the money I earn. I'm not rich, but I do ok. Second, I have to reach people before they start buying my shit. Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising. If someone lends games, books or music from a friend, he doesn't pay anything. But he just might enjoy it enough to give something else from the same artist a chance. It's how you build a fanbase. But if you block used content, you will lose a hell lot of people.

I think it's a bad idea and Microsoft will lose most of their fanbase. It might just kick them out ouf the console business. But if Sony decides to do the same thing, I'm out and will be buying a Wii U or something. Because the publisher just doesn't deserve to get something just because I decide to sell my copy. And the console maker sure as hell doesn't deserve to get something from the used market.

DRM is not the right way if you want to sell more copies. It's the exact opposite. Even the average joe will figure out soon enough when a company is clearly anti-consumer. So they will be looking for alternatives. If you want to sell a lot of copies, it's a good idea to just make a good game and don't give a shit about DRM. The game will be copied, no matter how hard you try. In fact, I think the Xbox One will be hacked just because it tries to be even more closed than Apple products. I can imagine some hackers feel challenged by Microsoft.

So, in the end, even with used games, piracy and whatnot, a good game will sell. People will know about it and a possible sequel will sell even better. For decades used games didn't seem to be a problem. Now that piracy isn't the big thing, all of a sudden used games a responsible for the downfall of the industry? Seriously? It's just some old bastards who don't know nothing about video games and want to maximize their profits, no matter what it takes.

my 2 cents.
