This. Trading in is only a very small part of the problem, like alot of people when i sell i do it privatley on EBAY for maximum profit and when i lend a game to my friends it just works

That's not the problem.

Question is..how will MS take a cut? There has to be a system in place that allows the boarding and unboarding of games to be played on different consoles.

Conclusion:

Your friend that wants to borrow your copy of the game or you want to borrow his is not possible!

Cant believe Some people defending this DRM just cos they love XBox, its truly crazy.

And no its not illegal to lend a film or game you've bought to a friend, no matter what a license agreement may say. They have no legal right to stop any private use of products you have bought including watching it with friends or letting them borrow it.

How do we know these license agreements hold no water for private sale or private lending, because if they did then you wouldn't be allowed to trade them in at shops in the first place!!

The only rumors Ive seen are the ones about them taking the cut from a retailer. The retailer (GameStop, for example), sorts it all out, thus they are needed.

If I can sell my game to a friend and he only has to activate it then its not as bad. I guess that depends on the price of activation. It still sounds beyond sleazy though.

Id at least like to be able to sell my games to friends. Not being able to just lend them out is shitty, but meh.

I'm pretty sure that if your disc breaks you have to buy a new copy of the game. The whole "it's a license, not a good... unless we want it to be" thing is bullshit.

With physical copies, you own the disc and the box. You can do with it whatever you want, almost literally, no matter what any company tries to enforce. There is one exception; You don't own the data on these discs an buy a license to use it (in which you were correct) along with the ownership of medium. Which means you're not allowed to distribute the data for personal gain. This applies to every form of media; whether it be music, film or software. It's also including books, just replace 'disc and box' with 'paper' and 'data' with 'text'. Software in particular has an exeption though, it's not allowed to own a copy of any type of software. For whatever reason this is different from film and music.

This is European regulation though, don't know what the rules are elsewhere.
