Every forum known to man has this, yet people say it won't work? It does work, I never use it but it does work for many people.

In theory yes, in practice it works the other way round. Avatars compel you to read in the vein of "what's this idiot got to say this time!?" We've all been there, countless times.

There's nobody I would want to ignore. Not even people I commonly disagree with. But if YOU want to ignore people, you should be able to choose to do so. But I think the person would have to know they are ignored by you, something below the avatar perhaps.

whatever the consent is we get from this thread. Don't expect it to be implemented in the next 12 months (probably much more, if ever...).

Correct, we should confront the issue by reading every post by our least favorite users!

A friend & foes list like some forums have (Gonintendo). Any one on your foes list will have their comment hidden in the thread. The problem is curiosity as to what they said outweighs your desire to ignore them & you end up hitting "show users post" every time. It doesn't work.
