Maaaaaaan, back when Firefox was the top-dog web browser. Now it's all about Chrome.

*still clings desperately to Firefox*

i have a ignore feature, it's called my brain

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

but that way nobody would be able to talk to me

This works well against trolls that are clever enough to avoid moderation. If you can't read them, you will not answer them.

No. It didn't works... you will only lost the thread context... read a lot of comments without understand anything is a terrible ideia.

You are just scared because you know many people want to ignore you =p.

well there is always one who will quote the troll, so you'd most likely read it anyway.

It would be useful against spammers however :P

The value of not having to read someone's stupid posts is more than outweighed by the value of being able to read entire threads, IMO. I just can't imagine being so easily annoyed by someone on a message board as to want a feature like this.

See your logic but the way the feature is implemented is that if the context isn't clear - as it may not be, there's a button on the hidden post to show it. Obviously the first thing a sensible person would do if it appeared like people were talking to themselves would be to press that button - only after that would a sensible person need to request medical attention.

Not sure it would really work here though because there's a small group of hardcore regular posters who seem to get in every single thread without fail, kinda ironic as they normally are the ones who'd be on my ignore list and are full of fail.

Pressing a button to see what these people have to say then having to read it as well would just add insult to injury.

So yes, as you say and as I'm thinking whilst typing this I have come to the conclusion it's not a good idea.

A simple way to ignore a user is to skip over their comments when you see their avatar. You don't HAVE TO read their comments.

I actually like this implementation on YouTube. Any time a comment has been hidden there I can count on it being so stupid that it borders on genius, so the "This comment has been hidden" message is a good way to advertise these great comments and it's always worth the extra effort to click on them. The extra bit of anticipation even adds to the experience. It's kind of like opening a fortune cookie that's going to call you a faggot or advocate the extermination of your people.

But yeah, with no way to rate comments up or down here plus a small user base (VGChartz is doomed) and moderation... there's no real point.

The best option is not to read most threads. I admit there are a few posters that I would probably want to kick in the nuts in real life, but then again if I ignored many posters I never would have been in a cuddle, puddle in love with Rol every NFL season.
