Forums - Sales - Wii U Initial Sales Better Than PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360?

Comparing numbers to a console that hadn't launched yet in the biggest territory it would ever have and even using 360 numbers in Japan to sweeten the numbers...
I'm at a loss for words. These alignment graphs have to die as far as "evidence" goes, its been shown time and time again that it just doesn't work that way, the same graphs would tell us that the Wii has outsold the PS2 by now or that the 360 has a ten million lead globally on the PS3, or that the PS3 would have 100 million sold units by now etc.

This is plain silly. The Wii U had a good launch and a truly terrible new years and onwards, there really is absolutely no way of getting around that fact with graphcs and half-assed comparisons.

I have provided solid sales figures. Your data is flawed since you are sourcingVGC. My data is 100% more accurate than yours... ya know... because it's straight from the companies financials.

Ps3 shipped 3.5mil at the end of March with 1 week of European numbers. Wii U has shipped 3mil at the end of December and has reached lower sales than the Ps3 did.

Only spin here is you by talking about initial sales when we have so much better data since then to compare.

You sompare one quarter of shipments for WiiU with two quarters for PS and assume somethign about a second shipment for WiiU. Data is something different as stuff you make up.

And I always said, that the WiiU sold worse later on. Why do you even try to say I spin this. But topic of this thread is ... ah I forgot, you don't like reading stuff.

Considering Wii U will (or at least should be unless it bombs even harder than it is now later on) be selling for another 5 years I think its safe to consider the second quarter apart of initial sales as well

I have already proofed with sales-data, that the launch of the WiiU was better of the launch of the PS3 even considering the later european launch: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5219869

I agree with you, that despite the good initial sales the WiiU is in a desperate situation now, and I also already posted data for this in the thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5219907

Handy little chart for people to clarify how the WiiU is doing in comparison to last gen consoles first weekson the market! You can thank me later!

Nice. So it´s clear that the WiiU did better than Xbox 360 and PS3 on its first six weeks and any of those consoles were able to beat Wii sales on the first 15 weeks. Thanks a lot for that. So we can say for sure that WiiU initial sales were really better than PS3 and 360, exactely as the title of this thread says, for that period.

Of course, people here will interpret your table according to their personal tastes and, of course, fanboyism, what is a shame

well the ps3 wasn't launch in europe, in that table and it's were the ps3 did the best

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I don't even know which data this table is based on, but it looks like US-only or America-only.

Here is a a table addressing the later launch of the PS3: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5219869

That´s ok. We know that after that period of 6 weeks and the difference on launch dates, Ps3 and 360 did better in comparison.
I really think that it´s pointless to compare them because their launches were not similar. 360 was launch 1 year before, and with a very high cost compared to PS2 and Gamecube at that time. PS3 had the higher cost later and Sony didn´t take long to launch cheaper versions.
It´s clear that WiiU overall sales are not good, but as happened with the 3ds and with Vita, we must give Nintendo some time. When the big 1st-party franchises come, and eventually a price drop (or a cheaper model) before holidays, we will have a better picture of the console´s future and - I´d say - the future of the industry itself. What´s happening right now to Vita and WiiU must be of every console maker concern

the launch of the system was really good. numbers were really solid, but then sales dropped like a rock

Sounds familiar.

Your right , however the cliff Vita went off came a lot quicker....

Actually, the Wii U has been out for 4 months and sold 2.7 million, while the PS Vita has been out for 15 months and has sold 4.4 million.

So with a 11 month head start, the PS Vita only sold 1.7 million more, and that will shriek, even though Handhelds have always sold better then Home Consoles.

The 3DS has the best first 1 month sales of all video game systems. It has the best or second best first 6 months sales, maybe after the Game Boy Advance, it has the best first 12 months sales, it has the best first 18 months sales, and it has the best first 2 years sales. So please don't say lies about the 3DS ever selling bad ever.

But the important to me and many others is the demand. It was hard to find 360's in the wild, at least here in the US for many months after It's launch. eBay prices were not a pretty sight. It will also be the last time I ever consider pre-ordering a system in store with those nasty lines. I'll be pre-ordering on Amazon next round.

It's just that simple.

In 2013 Wii U sold 182k in Japan

In 2007 Ps3 sold 307k in Japan

Ps3 sold 125k more in Japan than Wii U from Jan - present

In 2007 Ps3 sold 244k in Jan and 127k in Feb in US.

In 2013 Wii U sold 57k in Jan and 63k in Feb in the US

Ps3 sold 250k more in US than Wii U from Jan - Feb

NOW HERE IS THE KICKER! Ps3 shipped 1.8mil in this quarter.

1.8 MILLION YOU SAY? Well take away 375k Ps3 sold more than the Wii U and you still get 1.425million. Add that to the 3mil Nintendo already has and you get 4.425mil from nintendo! THATS GREAT! 4.425 > 3.5 mil Ps3 had.... oh but wait... 1 mil of that 1.8mil Ps3 shipped went directly to Europe... Nintendo won't be shipping anywhere near that in Europe this quarter. So in Japan and US Nintendo's strongest market by far you get 425k shipped AT BEST (though most likely less than this because Wii U won't be matching Ps3's shipments)... Nintendo needs to ship 75k to match the Ps3's shipments from the same time. Possible? Obviously, but it won't be a significant difference... and considering the Ps3 missed 80% of the quarter in it's best region... I can't see how anyone would try to compare the two to say Wii U could possibly turn into the next ps3 or 360 and sell 70mil

Edit: this is assuming the Wii DOUBLES it's sales in March in NPD and doesn't fall behind Ps3 even more. This is also assuming the Wii U DOUBLES it's sales in Japan and doesn't fall more behind in March (which I can see happening)

This thread is about initial sales, which is the first 5 weeks sales, and the Wii U came out in November.

So please compare the initial sales, which is 2012 for Wii U only, and compare it to first 5 weeks of PS3 & 360.
