Forums - Gaming - Why I hope PS4/NeXbox Blocks Used games

Before comparing the car industry with the game industry, people dont buy cars and then take them back 24 hours later.  Im fine with used game sales if they are no longer shipping that game but games being sold used that arent even a week old is ridiculous.

So everytime I get on the internet and used games are mentioned to be blocked I see a ton of gamers whining like littler children.  You know how the story goes.  They then go on to say that they will not buy that console because that, but here is the thing, MSFT and Sony shouldn't care if you buy the console.  They will most likely be selling there consoles at a loss which means they need to sell software to make money.  And when cheap gamers buy and sell used games then they don't make any money.  Not only that, but you guys are putting developers out of business.  Which i will try and list the developers who are no longer with us that was with us at the beginning of the generation.

So yeah you can complain and whine but you arent helping out these companies anyways when you buy and sell used games.  All you are doing is hurting them.  When 1 person can buy a game and then 2-10 more people end up buying that game used it is isnt fair to them.  Support comanies instead of hurting them.

I know you are going to say well they shouldn't be $60.  Some games like AA games should actually lower the price to around $30 and I agree with  that and maybe they will when they have to stop battling whiney gamers like you.  The thing is, i don't think there is another industry who is as annoying and whiney as gamers who comlain about everything.

The Way Pricing should work based off budget

AAA - $50-$60

AA- - $20 - $40

Indie - 0.99c - $15.00

I also want to mention that it strains many developers on being creative from the fear that they will not sell well and on top of that people buying used games.

List of Developers that are no longer with us.  Bad decisions sure, but used game sales dont help either.

Most of these developers have gone out of business because they bite off more than they can chew (development and cost wise) or no one wants their games. It's not usually because some people buy the used titles instead of the new titles.

Anyhow, I could care less if they block used games. 1.) I'm not going to buy either of these consoles and 2.) I never buy used games anyway. (I only sell my games to get the new ones. )

Here, have this warm cup of milk and calm down.

not even slightly funny but i am calm. I can write a heated article, this is not the case though

When you buy a used copy of a game/movie or pirate something, it is because you dont consider it worth of the price tag. So if companies block used games, it wont suddenly increase the sales, because for those users it is not worthy. So they will just continue with their living like if nothing happened.

I only buy new games and I dont sell them, but still I think that the perspective of the industry is fucked up. They should demonstrate to the user that the content they are offering is worthy of the $60, if they manage to do so people, who used to buy games used or pirate them, will begin to buy the games new, because they are worthy of their $60.

Companies shut down, because they are not conscious of their limitations, so they try to make a big budget AAA game, without having all the resources, so they end up delivering a piece of crap that does not sells; and thus they close doors.

I dislike these threads so much because they are obviously pro-corporation, anti-consumer.

Who's side are you on?

You are obviously trying to blame used game sales for these companies going under and not those companies making poor business choices and/or making shit games that nobody wanted.

You want to know why we complain? It's easy.

I bought the game. It is mine. If I want to sell, why can't I? If I sell it, why do I owe the developers anything? They already got their money for that copy.

Now if I was to buy a used game, is it because I thought $60 was too much? Maybe.

Was it because I couldn't find a new copy? Maybe.

Who is to say that I bought Skyrim used the devs wouldn't make money on my DLC purchases? You know, I can't buy those used.

Now, you might respond with "You don't really own it because they own the software". Well, if that is the case then yes, we can bitch and whine that $60 is too much for something we don't actually own.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Yes poor choices can be made but I dont support used game sales even if they have made poor choices.  The only industry that has used beside new is the game industry.  People dont buy cars and then take them back 24 hours later and sell it back.  See what im saying?  That is the main problem.  people get a game, play it less than a week then return it and then the cycle repeats its self.  I bet some games get rebought up to 10 times bcause of this.

Well here is a list but most of them made bad choices but here is one anyways

Don't buy used cars, car companies could go out of business because of that!!!

Agree with you JayWood!

I never understood used games anyway. Why risk buying used and saving $5-10 when the disc could be crap and you waste your time and gas money replacing them?

I do, however, sell my games to give me more money for new games, but I can live without the extra $20-30 that puts in my monthly budget haha...

PC, mobile phones (Android/iOS), etc already have 0 used games and you don't see them complaining. In fact, you hear those people cheer about how great of sales and deals they can get on new games! Maybe this same thing would be true if used games were blocked from gaming consoles as well, ya know?

Why buy used when you can wait a few months and buy brand new for the same price or cheaper than used?
