Bollocks.

I suppose next time I jump into my second-hand car I should feel guilty because Ford lost out and I'm not 'supporting the company'. The games industry is the only one in which fans feel we should all bow down to the companies providing the content like they're our best friends.

They're businesses, they sell products, and we have the right to sell them on, share them, buy them second hand, like any other product in any other industry, ever.

ONCE AGAIN.  People dont buy a car then take it back 24 hours.  Ill just add that to the OP since you guys keep wanting to bring it up

People could if they wanted to. Just it would have lost tons of its value.

...just like trading in games.

Am i asking an "IF" question?  No im not.  Im saying how it is in the industry at this moment.

Your argument is that people don't take a car back after 24 hours. But there's nothing stopping them, it just means that car loses a lot of its value.

A game traded in is the same deal, losing a lot of its value the moment it becomes used. It's only in the games industry this is considered a problem.

There is no guarantee that no used games means Games will not be $60

Sure some PC games are $50 when their Console counterpart are $60. But not all.

Let me be clear, I don't personally care if the PS4 blocked used games. I will still buy it. But don't think for even a second that blocking used games will somehow benefit the consumer in anyway. If going Digital when buying a game meant a $10 discount then it would benefit the consumer and developer/publisher

I kinda hope PS4 and Nexbox will block used games too, that will make my decision easy to save a good $400-$500 and I can stick with PC/Wii U exclusively this gen.

If pricing became more competitive then that would definitely mitigate used game purchases. Most people I know buy them because they find it hard to spend that 60. Likewise most people I know sell games in order to obtain the means to buy new games. It would be interesting if we had date on used games sales from generation to generation since the cost of games tend to rise.

Cliffy had some good ideas for pricing games. AAA be 60 while other lesser games could be around 40 or less. I find that reasonable. For instance take the most recent Sly Cooper game. I decided early to wait for it at 30 or so, but when Sony slashed the price to 40 I bought it early.

I'm not exactly in favor of blocking used games. I don't buy them, but I don't like the feeling of being limited either. I think this is where devs should aim to be more competitive. I'm okay with online passes since you can access the campaign portion of the game, but an outright block doesn't sit well with me.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

So, since piracy isn't a big deal anymore, used games are now the reason for poor sales. Sounds reasonable.

Used games are good for the environment! You just need one copy which many people can enjoy! But besides that, without used games, the games will just disappear one day. You know, I can buy Super Mario Bros. today, no problem. But imagine what happens if used games don't work. In 20 years there will be absolutely no possiblity to gain access to the titles of today. They will just vanish, no one will ever play them again and so no one will remember them. It may be good for video games as an industry if people only buy new games. But it is bad as hell for video games as an arts form as well as for every collector on the planet.

They should block firstly enormous budgets without any proof of recoup those. Used games is not the main problem.

Who's gonna buy your used games if no one else can play them?

And OP...no. Consumers don't owe companies anything, it's not our duty to keep them in business.

Is this the worst thread ever created? Possibly.

That's what's wrong with the picture! I never agreed with the OP...

Heres an idea that could work, what if the console makers agreed to block used games if publishers agreed to a smaller percentage of a games sale, basically the console makers could lower the price of new game to 49.99, selling more copies, and by blocking used games, the publishers would see more revenue because the additional sales, yes they would make less a each copy but they would make more money by selling additional units. If gaming addiction is real, people who mostly bought used would still buy games, what do you guys think

That sounds like a pretty decent idea. I just think it is time to rid used game sales.  Obviously there is other things that needs to be fixed but either every game needs an online pass fee or used games need to disapear.  Or at least games that hasnt been out long.

As a gamer, I choose the "make better games" option.

Here is the problem with that.  A lot of games that are not considered good are games that kids would like.  For example kinect games.  We dont like them but why should kids be out of the equation just because we dont consider them good.

I thought I was going to come into this article disagreeing with the OP but after reading it I have kinda change my mind to a more Neutral state over the matter.

It's already confirmed PS4 won't block used games.

The next Xbox still might, and if it does it will be a complete flop.
