Don't buy used cars, car companies could go out of business because of that!!!

Not for nothing but the reason why car companies can deal with this. Selling one car (for a quite large sum) also ensures a healthy market of marked up components and repairs which more and more are proprietary parts that you can only buy from _them_.

I support used, but I also support online game passes, account locked DLC, and microtransactions because the truth is at the moment too many games (honestly _good_ games) are not making enough money for their companies to stay afloat. What happens when a developer creates a game of passion (IE the game _they_ want to make and play) and it turns out to be a niche game that very few buy?

Too many gamers these days seem like self entitled little twerps.

Again, I am not really for blocking used games, id rather less DRM than more. But people need stop being so entitled that they think they should be able to buy a game for pennies or pirate it, just because they "wouldn't buy it anyway."

Well then, couple years down the line, I'm looking for some games.

I notice that they have this 1 game for cheap that I didn't have the time/money for at the time.

There are no new copies, because they stopped shipping them.

I'll take the used one then. (Exactly what I did with TWEWY and Metroid Prime)

That is understandable, but games that arent even a week old getting sold used is completely ridiculous for developers and publishers

Yes on cheap gamers.  People dont argue about movies and that is 2 hours of entertainment.  Games are usually no less than 6 hours. The industry is quickly becoming owned by AAA games and indie games.  Nothing else has a chance to be successful anymore.  And unless a game has good multiplayer most games struggle to go beyond 1 million because of used sales even if they are of high quality.

People tend to rent movies. So the same copy is used hundreds of times. Disney is nearly broke because of that!

Bollocks.

I suppose next time I jump into my second-hand car I should feel guilty because Ford lost out and I'm not 'supporting the company'. The games industry is the only one in which fans feel we should all bow down to the companies providing the content like they're our best friends.

They're businesses, they sell products, and we have the right to sell them on, share them, buy them second hand, like any other product in any other industry, ever.

ONCE AGAIN.  People dont buy a car then take it back 24 hours.  Ill just add that to the OP since you guys keep wanting to bring it up

People could if they wanted to. Just it would have lost tons of its value.

...just like trading in games.

No, but a 10 year old car hasn't lost that much value than a 10 year old game. Cars are probably more often resold used, because they have a longer lifespan and many gamers tend to  keep their games.

They also no longer make that car.  Which is what im saying about used games.  It is fine after they stop shipping it but games sold used that isnt even a week old is ridilous.  It is basically stealing profit from the developers and publishers

Now tell me how often it happens though?  It is rare unlike used games. Completely different industries and i think you realize this

Unfortunately that's just the risk they have to take. They can mitigate it to be sure. But blocking used games can have a huge negative effect. I still buy PS1/PS2 games. Games that I cannot possibly get new these days. What happens 10-20 years from now when the PS4 is but a fleeting memory? Are those games forever lost to the retro gamer?

Or maybe the gamers should do their homework and spend their money wisely on only the games they absolutely know they will like? Yes, there will be letdowns still, but the average gamer that goes out and buys used games on a regular basis is typically the type that has very very little knowledge of those games, their reviews, etc. They are much more "casual" and just play games to play them.

Maybe those gamers should start making much more educated buying decisions and buy less games, to stick with NEW games that they really, truly want to play.

I also refer you to my original reply to this thread regarding how blocking used games can have a positive affect, or how the console gamers are the last of the gamers that even have used games, yet you don't hear the other gamers out there complaining.

If gamers did their homework, then developers would go bankrupt even faster than if used games were blocked. The industry wouldn't welcome a higher level of knowledge among the average consumer, because many publishers rely on selling shoddy products.

People who buy mobile games don't complain, because the prices are so low. The industry wants to keep charging high prices on dedicated gaming machines though.

The entire problem surrounding used games is that the industry wants to keep charging the same or higher prices for the same or lower quality. No gamer in their right mind should support this.

They need to start selling games based off of there budgets.

AAA - 50-60$

AA - 20-40$

Indie 0.99c - $15.00
