If pricing became more competitive then that would definitely mitigate used game purchases. Most people I know buy them because they find it hard to spend that 60. Likewise most people I know sell games in order to obtain the means to buy new games. It would be interesting if we had date on used games sales from generation to generation since the cost of games tend to rise.
Cliffy had some good ideas for pricing games. AAA be 60 while other lesser games could be around 40 or less. I find that reasonable. For instance take the most recent Sly Cooper game. I decided early to wait for it at 30 or so, but when Sony slashed the price to 40 I bought it early.
I'm not exactly in favor of blocking used games. I don't buy them, but I don't like the feeling of being limited either. I think this is where devs should aim to be more competitive. I'm okay with online passes since you can access the campaign portion of the game, but an outright block doesn't sit well with me.
