er...I dunno about best or worst game, but I don't mind it...I prefer the setting to other ac games but I'm hoping if/when they do the inevitable AC 3.1 and 3.2 games they tweak some of the things they got wrong.

If you mostly ignore Connor the story is alright, he is just unbelievably boring. I also feel they didn't want to turn on the Americans too much, but they do call them out for their hypocracy (land of the free, apart from if you are not white) It is still a fun game to play, I just don't understand why everyone is hating on this game so much |
Probably because AC2 was a brilliant game, superior in most ways to AC3 and a huge step up from AC1.

I totally agree that it wasn't as good as AC II and it was certainly disapointing, but once I got that out of my system, I thoroughly enjoyed it
It'll get better, but as Kantor says, don't expect it to be better than AC2.
It does eventually open out but Connor is fairly boring as a main protagonist so you'll always have that to contend with when doing story missions. Otherwise, I actually had some fun taking out forts and planning story assassinations in the forest areas. Also, the naval missions are some of the most fun side missions in the AC series.
The ending though, was pretty crap, so don't get your hopes up on that account.

The battles so far are very easy. All I need to do is press O to counter then I'm able to instakill anyone. No challenge at all, and very repetitive. Again, doesn't feel like an Assassin's Creed game. With AC1 and to a lesser extent AC2, I felt like an Assassin. Not a US immigrant with sword skills. The characters are completely hit or miss, mostly missing. I'm a smart guy, but so far (just freed some slaves or something?) I have no idea what's going on. The story is a mess. I'm going from mission to mission not knowing anything and the acting of the characters are ho hum. Again, does not feel like an Assassin's Creed game. |
The battles get slightly harder when your meet soliders besides the standard ones, as they counter-block. There are about 4 types, each one is beaten by a different fighting attack (ie break-defence, throw, disarm). Like you, I wasn't that entralled by the supporting cast and was rather fed up when I found myself stuck playing as Haytham. Although his relationship with Connor helps make the story interesting, he was dull to play as it was easier to predict where it was going (knew who the woman was as soon as I saw her and gues the chapter 3 plot twist at the end of chapter 2). The story does grow to become more interesting but the you have to make it through the first 5 chapters to start to get to the good bits.
The game doesn't hit the heights of AC2, and Connor may not be as enjoyable to play as Ezio or Altair, but its still worth sticking with (although you'd be forgiven by most for bailing on the ending). It was certainly better than Revelations.

Well, I guess I was enjoying it to some degree whilst I was playing it, though never nearly as much as I enjoyed AC2.
It's just looking back that I see how disappointing it really was.
I suppose it's still a high 7 to a low 8, but that puts it fourth in the series for me (behind II, Brotherhood and Revelations), and I was hoping it would be the best of the lot. This is what annualised releases do to a franchise

I wouldn't say that it had much to do with the annual release, just a few poor choices in development
I suppose you could say that the poor choices had much to do with needing to come up with good new ideas every year, but I had no problem at all with the supposed buginess of the game
I didn't mind the game actually, although it was brought out to early
Yeah, the first few hours bored me to death. I don't think it really picks up until you get passed sequence 7 or so. Even then, you won't have as much fun as you did in previous game imo. I beat the game in about 37 hours, doing a lot of the side-quests, and I'd say about 17 hours of that was spent being bored. A largely boring game for a largely boring time in U.S. history.
EDIT: The combat isn't as god-awful easy as Revelations, but once you know how to counter each type of enemy (You can't counter with O for every type), and utilize your secondary weapons mid-fight, you're back to being a one-man army.

If it wasn't for the naval missions it would have been a total loss. Exploration still kept me going in between but the story missions and side quests felt like chores. I found myself sitting through a story mission only to check if any new naval mission had opened up after. And even those had their problems.
