Launching a console at a rather spectacular cost and reaching only the shadow of one's predecessor is hardly a feat to be lauded. Sony's comeback the last three years has been specacular but the launch was a disaster.
That's not my opinion either, that's a fact (massive money and marketshare loss is not great news for any company).

My target is not to compare the revenue. It is more to look at the sales in the light of the price of the device. That's why the smaller price is more interesting, as this limits the sales.

The PS3 is fantastic... a $600 machine destined to be the best selling console this gen is just over epic.

Well it shows that the PS brand is strong and overall in my eyes the ps3 is a big success. I can see the PS3 selling nearly 100 m units which is a huge success for any console manufactorer.

But i also agree that the launch and the first 2 or 3 years were a disaster from a buisness point of view.

Launching one year later, with a way to high price pointand no real software support would have killed nearly every company. It was sony luck that they were so strong with the ps2. Otherwise the whole situation would be different than today.

Accusing users of trolling has no business in any thread. Whatsoever (Even if they actually are). If you believe a user is trolling or flaming, REPORT THE USER instead of "confronting" them in the thread.

All this does is derail the thread of any constructive discussion and leads to petty bickering. The report button is there for a reason. Use it if you think it needs to be used, and ignore the user in question until mods take action (and even if we don't... leave the poster be and continue on in on-topic discussion).

Very funny, but no it's legit. The early week was by online order only, sort of pre order bonus-ish. Kind of wierd for a launch, but whatever, Sony tried it out and 66,585 people got theirs a few days early. I could have still gotten a first edition bundle on Sony Rewards but they must have finally ran out of those or decided to scrap them or give them to employees because the cases that came with them are limited edition.

That's why they made the slim version.
