Forums - Sales - Global Hardware + Software Up (Ending Dec. 1) After Black Friday sales

3DS keeps on heading downward, been saying it all along that handhelds will be slowed and eventually consumed by tablet and phone gaming.

Close week for PS360. WiiU clearly having small stock in EU and Americas, I refuse to believe that it would sell like that in the second week in Americas and first week EU otherwise (then again, problems with selling surplus units on ebay and similar sites and reports of ample stock in Europe could suggest otherwise), I guess only numbers for the next 8-9 weeks will really tell the tale. I'm really excited to see the WiiU in Japan, that will truly be make or break, Japan is generally starting to move away from home consoles slowly but certainly.

It's just that people were saying the demand would mostly come from Germany+France.

Regarding USA Wii U sales this week: Why did they go down so much? Have they not shipped more units? They must really be struggling with shipping if it goes down that much in USA + sells only 50% of Wii's FW in Europe.

I don't recall people saying this. I was also under the illusion (think I read somewhere, will look for a source) that the WiiU had an initial shipment in Europe of 200k. As such, it's nearly a 90% sell-through so that's the reason for that. Though I don't believe that's true, and would expect closer to 250k for the shipment.

As for the US? Everything went down very sharply. Remember the first week had its launch AND Black Friday, so sales were always like to hit around 150k (which was my US prediction and 350k WW for the week, next week will be around 550k WW I reckon). I do believe supply is still a factor, but not so big. It just seems the demand isn't there, but that's advertising. I had an hour free so went to the main GAME store in my local town (one of the biggest cities in the UK). Numerous people came in, and 8 went over to try out the WiiU. Most of them had never heard of the device but really enjoyed the demo, and 5 of them left with the system. A 6th attempted to but at this point they were sold out, but with a new shipment coming Monday/Early next week, and so I left as well.

So the system is selling, when people know what it is. It's the advertising which is lacking. You know, all of those people (pretty much) wished to know what is was, and the only one who did know thought it was a new controller for the Wii, and you could play Wii games and Wii games only on the screen.

I had a pretty long convo with CCFanboy about it.

Oh, well...fair enough. Just thought I'd throw my experience into the ring as well, take from that what you will.

As I said, the holiday season is not traditional sales-wise so judging a system on it is not wise (the same applies for all console, especially the Vita).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It continues.....the 360 and PS3; much closer than previous years. Just as I thought would happen.

This is the closest it will get now until January as the US sales will be stronger in December than Europe.  I expect we are looking at a 2.5 million gap mid January before adjustments at the end of the quarter.  Great sales by the PS3 to keep on the 360's tail, it should take the year comfortably now.

In the last weeks of the year the stong sales come from Japan and EU... so PS3 will win the last two weeks of the year... last weeks (BF), this and the next are when the 360 did the best due the strong US sales.

This year the GAP won't be wide.

Waiting for the global software chart...

Halo 4 has 259k from Germany, USA and the UK, so it should sell ~370K WW

PS3 should win the last two weeks of the year though, the last week should be a pretty significant win. So the gap will probably be around 2.3-2.4m

The win will be around 25% down on last year for the PS3 though too so it will even out.  I think 2.3-2.6 is the spread depending on how December goes in the US will be the deciding factor.

It looks like the 360 is still ahead of PS3 in the UK, and will likely continue to be this December. Still, PS3 is doing pretty damn good there. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Wii U. Only a few weeks left until the 360 becomes the best selling console of this generation in the UK!

Wii launch in Europe:

Wii 321,565 (N/A) 321,565

The Wii U numbers are only 2 days. What's this number from, launch week? launch day?

3 third party Wii U games in the UK chart. One is ZombiU at #16 with 19k in sales, another is that Sonic kart game at #69 and third is Batman at #97...

Not encouraging

Third parties should be honored they are even in the chart since all nintendo owners buy is nintendo games.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

These numbers seem off to me especially considering the mass under tracking of PS3 during Black Friday, it is hard to believe that it dropped from a likely North America number of 570,000 all the way to 170,000 in North America.

I bet the actual numbers will end up closer to 200,000 in North America this week.

disappointing 3ds sales in the us. How does a 7 year old hunk of crap like the 360 keep selling? I guess people like paying for an online service they get free anywhere else?

while it's not a piece of crap I don't see how people are still buying 360s when Wii has so many loveable platformers and old school franchises and PS3 has the best and most varied exclusives this gen.  Too bad COD sheep bought the 360 in 05 and got all their friends to do it, and the cheapos who won't pony up an extra $50 cause all they want is COD or sports games and the cheapest option to play those.  Seriously people expand your horizons in gaming and not only will you have more fun with better exclusives, but also save money in the long run considering you'll have to buy an external hard drive once that 4gb runs out and have to pay $60 a year on live which is basically the same now.
