Every single mainline Halo has won game of the year from someone. It's too bad the first two were the most critically acclaimed when there was no where near as many publications giving out GOTY awards as there are nowadays.

Well to be called GOTY Edition you need at least one award to put it in the cover... if you don't have a GOTY award then you release with any name you want but not GOTY Edition.

For GOTY Editions you need a award from a known and highly regarded publication...

Or did you expect to put in the cover "GOTY from unknown site".

And like you showed me Halo already received a GOTY Edition... the unique Halo to received expressives GOTY awards...  I fount it to buy in the Mercado Livre (aka eBay Brazil).

AMAZING game anyway... one of the best Halos for me (the best multiplayer is Halo 3 IMO or maybe Halo 2).

Anyway why all this talk about release Editions??? All games have it including Halo 4.

I was about to say, I have that copy of Halo:ce^^^. It seems Halo games love to release when some of the biggest games do as well. Halo 2 has san andreas, half-life 2 and some other games to compete with. Halo 3 had bioshock, cod4, mass effect, etc. Halo reach had ME2, portal 2, rdr, etc. Halo 4 didn't have much compared to previous halo's.

Games put accolades from unknown sites all the time. The problem with putting GOTY signs is that usually you don't get those GOTY awards until after the game is released. Thats why only repackaged editions of games are "GOTY" editions. It's just been a trend that GOTY repackages come with all dlc, and for whatever reason microsoft doesn't want to repackage the halo games with all dlc and so doesn't release GOTY editions.
Gamespy, 1UP, and Gamefly are not unknown sites btw.

As for proof to back up my claim that any ol game of the year award allows a publisher to make a "GOTY edition".

Rerelease, as in a new version usually including dlc after the game comes out. Not launch time limited editions

That's what I kind of figured. In that case every single main Halo could have had a GOTY edition but MS doesn't do GOTY/ultimate/whatever other name you can think of for Halo games.

 

Also there is no GOTY edition for Halo CE

EDIT: It may have a thing that says that it was GOTY but it isn't a re-release of any sort (like actual GOTY editions with extra content are)
