Forums - Nintendo - Wii U NSMBU NA TV ad NEW!

No, I'd rather the marketing agency actually did something for taking tens of millions of dollars from a company that desperately needs this product to succeed. And actually accurately conveyed what the product is really all about.

The Wii U is the most sophsticated console Nintendo has ever made, it's not just a toy for kids, it's a full on set-top TV box, a social media integrated web centric machine, and a next-generation device gaming device to boot.

It deserves better than to be protrayed in this simplistic light. I think this marketing campaign is crap. Wii U deserves better and so does Nintendo.

That's my opinion, if you don't like it, that's not really my problem.

Well I'll be... You're actually being serious. Just forget what I said.

A stealth edit is when you try to edit/add to your post before anyone sees it. In this case, Rol quoted you before you had a chance to finish editting.

Does he get a cookie for that? I wanted expand my point, I'm allowed to do so.

What's your problem? Did this ad make you angry for some reason? Would you rather they show games with no mascots/mario/sports?

You're hilarious. It's not like Nintendo just handed the reins to the marketing of their new home console to a random agency, gave them a big bag of money, and went like 'so yeah, you guys just go ahead and do whatever you want'.

Do you seriously believe Nintendo themselves do not approve of, or have any say in the making of their own commercials?

Well you convinced me that air tight logic. This commercial is a resounding success and is sure to wow people over the age of 12.

MS and Sony should be shaking in their boots.

This is a Super Mario Bros. game. It launches with the new Nintendo console. It is Microsoft's and Sony's worst nightmare.

Just for your information, New Super Mario Bros. (the DS game) has sold more copies in the USA in the timeframe January-September 2012 than any PSV game.

If I'm MS and Sony I'm loving that Nintendo is going back to framing themselves as the "kids console"/"toy device" and away from the broader context they initially marketed the Wii and product like Brain Training from the mid-2000s, which started to paint Nintendo in a more sophiticated, elegant light.

But if Nintendo wants to take a giant dump on that and return to the image they had with the GameCube, great. You're kidding yourself if you don't think MS would watch that commercial with a giant smirk on their faces. Exactly what they want.

Seriously? This is probably the least "kiddy" console Nintendo is releasing.. You do realize this is a commercial for a Mario game do you not? Obviously it's going to cater to kids.

The Wii U itself will have plenty of games geared towards the blood and guts hungry "mature" gamer.. Assassin's Creed 3, Zombi U, Mass Effect 3, Dark Siders 2, Black Ops 2, Bayonetta 2, Ninja Gaiden 3, etc. I swear you'd think EVERY game would have to be M rated on a Nintendo console for it to looks its kiddy image with some people..

Exactly. The Wii U is by far the most sophisticated console (not just in terms of tech, but in terms of design vision and functionality) Nintendo has ever released.

So why is the marketing agency not marketing this product as such?

Because it's Mario? Mario has plenty of "cool-retro-hip" catchet with teenagers and adults. Painting him into a corner as 'little 8-year-old Johnny's game of choice' is the lowest common denominator. Memo to this marketing agency -- it's not 1992 anymore. Mario is "cool" in his own way these days, but apparently that's above the heads of this agency.

Someone please Youtube'd that vid.

This is an ad being displayed before the Disney movie 'Wreck-it-Ralph' as stated in the article.... The movie is targeted for families with kids. Little Johnny is going to get out of the movie theater and say to his mom: ''MOMMY! I want the new WII U WITH MARIO!'' I think it's going to be a success.

This is actually their broader marketing campaign for the Wii U in the US, they whole "colored rooms with people playing" is going to be used for a variety of TV commercials (much like say "Cube" concept ads for the GCN or the two travelling Japanese salesmen in the Wii spots).

I saw the SiNG commercial as well. It's crap. The whole campaign is crap. If I was Nintendo I'd want my money back. The system will sell well despite this, people want Mario, not just kids.

Certainly better than the PS3 launch ads.

I LOVE ICELAND!
