Forums - Nintendo - Wii U NSMBU NA TV ad NEW!

Are they going to keep this dubstep music for all their Wii U ads?

It's a new console for little 9-year-old Johnny and his 14-year-old sister.

This new ad agency that Nintendo hired is honestly worse than the one they had before. Why even bother switching if this is the best they could come up with for a major product launch?

Huh? How do you get that out of this commercial?

Of course, the Wii U would be an easier sale if it also had an adult-oriented blockbuster like Wii Sports 3, but you can't have everything at once.

I got that out of the commercial because the majority of the commercial is little kids using the system and the token "oh great, my 14 year old sister wants to watch TV, what's little Johnny to do?".

That's the message they choose to send, you can't fault the viewer, they obviously have chosen certain demographics they want to tie the system to.

Ummm.. this is a Wii U commercial, not a NSMBU commercial.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see this is a slight variation on the original one.

All the Wii U ads in North America are tied to that same initial concept apparently.

Yes, it's apparent they want to sell to demographics who like video games, not people who make lists of hardcore games that exclude a huge amount of good games due to not fitting into a warped definition of what real gamers supposedly like.

Well you convinced me that air tight logic. This commercial is a resounding success and certainly gives the impression of that this is the most sophisticated product Nintendo has ever made and that its tied to social media networks, TV set top box functionality, and next-generation gaming.

Nothing conveys that better than having a bunch of 10-year-olds in your commercial. Adults will love that, look at all the Apple commercials with kids in them.

And that music, man, it sure is lovely. They must have spent hours upon hours coming up with this concept, it's brilliant.

MS and Sony should be shaking in their boots.

This is a Super Mario Bros. game. It launches with the new Nintendo console. It is Microsoft's and Sony's worst nightmare.

Just for your information, New Super Mario Bros. (the DS game) has sold more copies in the USA in the timeframe January-September 2012 than any PSV game.

If I'm MS and Sony I'm loving that Nintendo is going back to framing themselves as the "kids console"/"toy device" and away from the broader context they initially marketed the Wii and product like Brain Training from the mid-2000s, which started to paint Nintendo in a more sophiticated, elegant light.

But if Nintendo wants to take a giant dump on that and return to the image they had with the GameCube, great. You're kidding yourself if you don't think MS would watch that commercial with a giant smirk on their faces. Exactly what they want.

lol @SW's stealth edit fail.
