Nobody has said it yet, but I thought Halo: Reach has some pretty great details - and used it graphics well. You could see aliens flying in the distance - but if you get to close they will attack you. Plus the lighting from you energy pulses in the weapons and such. It was great. (Halo Anniversary uses the same engine.)

Course I think Halo 4 will be even better. But at the time, way back two whole years ago, it was quite good.

Bungie has never pushed Halo to its limit in either graphics or story.

Halo 2 came pretty close to the limits of the original Xbox.

Halo 2 was great but PGR and Forza were the graphics bar on the Xbox. Ninja Gaiden Black was one of the best id ever seen on my original Xbox before I sold it.

That's very true and why I'm so excited for Halo 4. As a fan of Halo it was always frustrating that we had to go to other media to flesh out the incredible Halo universe. The games should be the flagship of the franchise in every way. From what I've seen 343i has put the kind of polish I've always wanted to see on Halo and they seem to really understand how to tell a story.

I agree, the Halo story outside of the anime hasn't interested me until now. The hype is the only thing that kept me playing to tell you the truth.

Yeah, I loved the Anime too as well as the books and graphic novels. The live action Forward Unto Dawn has been spectacular.

Halo CE had a complete story and was a great introduction to the universe. Halo 2 expanded it, but didn't tell it well and it made me feel like there were missing segments. I loved the Covenant viewpoint with the Arbitor, but I just wish we could have seen more. Longer cut scenes would have been nice. Halo 3 felt the same was to me and it still bothers me that poor Cortana was absent from 3/4 of the game. Halo 3 ODST had a great story with and it was told very well. I wish all the Halo games told such complete stories. The same goes for Halo Wars. Halo Reach was all over the place and skipped over huge spans of time. The missions didn't feel connected because the story jumped around so much.

Halo 4 looks to be the deffinitive Halo experience.

Halo 1 was king for me in story and multiplayer, Halo 2 was good but it was more about the multiplayer in that game for me. Halo 3 had a good story but great multiplayer, Halo ODST was fun to play with friends and Reach...lol lets just say I felt nothing when they all died.

I think a lot of people feel the same way. I've never been big into multiplayer. I played a ton of LAN when Halo was king, but I never took it seriously. By the time Halo 2 came out it seemed like everyone had gone pro and just wanted it for multiplayer. I was more interested in the campaign and still am.

i don't get what looks so great about halo 4, gears 3 looks 100x better

Halo 4 hasn't even released, I would say to consider it the best looking game it has to release first.

And for some reason halo's artwork never works in its favor. Lighting is all people talk about in it, and lighting is great in a lot many games already.

But among those released I would say Gears of War 3.

I'm actually very surprised at how great PGR4 looks. I've never actually played any of the PGR games, but after seeing that small clip Nsanity posted, I thought that was fake(or touched up considerably) and there was no way it looked that good. After watching some gameplay I will definitely have to pick it up.

I still think it does weather better than any game.  <--------PERIOD

What would a Naughty Dog Xbox 360 game look like? Or a 343 Ps3 title look like?

343 consists of a lot of former Sony and Naughty Dog talent whom have been working on Halo. Notice the difference?

And every other major studio, seriously 343i has employees from everywhere. But the people responsible for Halo 4's engine are David Wu the Chief Technology Officer worked at Pseudo Interactive, and Origin Systems. And Corrinne Yu the Principal Engine Programmer/Principal Engine Architect who worked on Prey, and Brothers in Arms and Borderlands at Gearbox, was a founding member of the  Direct 3D Advisory Board (and continues to work on Direct X API), and worked with Nvidia to develop CUDA (seriously this lady is a legend, one of the most talented graphics programers in the business).

You can't give Sony credit for the Halo 4 engine, in fact none of the top engine people are from Sony studios.

Fredrik Persson - Lead Gameplay Engineer (former Lead Programmer at Pandemic Studios)

Joe Waters - Software Development Engineer (former Lead Engineer at Monolith and Hidden Path Entertainment, Graphics/Effects Developer at FASA Studios)

Scott Parrish - Lead Creature Technical Director (former Lead Creature TD at Industrial Light and Magic, Character Pipeline TD and Cloth Technical Director at Sony Pictures Imageworks)

Brendan Wilson - Tools Developer (former Game Programmer at Koei Canada, Engineer at ATI)

And the art leads aren't from Sony ether

Kenneth Scott - Senior Art Director on Halo 4 (former Art Director at id Software)

Vic DeLeon - Lead Mission Artist on Halo 4 (former Senior Environment Artist at Bungie, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo: Reach.)

Neill Harrison - Art Manager on Halo 4 (former Art Manager at Rare Studios)

Matt Aldridge - Lead Character Artist (former Senior Character Artist at Lucasfilm, Character Artist at EA Los Angeles)

Maggie Oh - Senior Technical Artist (formerly of PIXAR)
