The west buying trends for 3DS haven't kicked off yet. Most of these sales are from Japan.

The US will begin spending on Nintendo handhelds as of holiday this year I believe.

Because for hardcore gamers there is next to nothing so the system isn't worth owning, and the Nintendo squad are waiting for Mario, Mario, and more Mario.

I do agree that other core gamers who are not mario fans probably dont have enough games to warrant a purchase.

However, this is what annoys me. The nintendo squad as you call it really need to start supporting decent third party games. I like my mario but at least I also buy quality 3rd party games.

Especially RE. So many complained about RE5 not coming to Wii and that it got on rails instead. Well look at 3ds. Proper RE game that is good and people are not buying it. then when the next one is annouced for vita instead of 3ds,  people will complain again lol.

I really hope this trent doesn't continue on Wii U, otherwise again no 3rd party support. There is a decent 3rd party line up on Wii U for those who only own a Wii and are going to upgrade.  I really hope they buy those games.

Not much by way of standout games on the system, yet, outside of first-party.

Well, MGS:SE is a port, and had been released three different ways before 3DS, and was set for release on Vita, too. And it was released in February/March - it hasn't been through a holiday season, yet.

In fact, neither of the games you mentioned have been through a holiday season. Both were released this year, which would explain why they haven't broken the million mark, yet.

Meanwhile, Revelations is the best-selling handheld Resident Evil to date, and as I noted, it hasn't even been through a holiday season, yet. It has already easily outsold RE: The Mercenaries 3D, despite that title having been through a holiday season. There's really no doubt that it'll make it to 1 million, almost certainly by the end of the year.

Other third-party titles on that list that are probably going to break 1 million include Dragon Quest Monsters (probably Japan only, though) and Kingdom Hearts 3D (over 300,000 in Japan so far this year, set to release elsewhere at the end of the month, and usually sells significantly better in America than Japan).

I'm also not sure what you mean by "these... types of games". Are you saying "realistic"? Dark? Shooters?

People want those types of 3rd party games for nintendo consoles, not nintendo handhelds. Why on earth would you expect a metal gear solid remake to sell 1mil+ when even the ps3 remake that includes more games isn't close to 1mil.

Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3d land were a good start towards the type of games the west wants. But thats all nintendo has at the moment for the west. The zelda remake was just for the hardcore nintendo fans who would have eventually bought the 3ds regardless. Most nintendogs/brain age customers are now playing the same type of games on their phones. Nintendo will start improving in the west once they start selling more handheld oriented games that don't really have good competition from ios games. 2d mario, mainline pokemon game, brand new zelda, maybe the portable super smash bros, etc.
I firmly believe that the 3ds has absolutely no chance of matching the ds's performance in the west. But its unfair to criticize current sales considering how new the system is, and because there aren't alot of big games out yet.

As I said in my other response, RE:Revelations hasn't been through a holiday season, yet. It'll do better during the holidays. As for RE5, the point is that RE4: Wii Edition sold very well considering it was a port, and that it had been on both PS2 and GameCube (thereby limiting its market as a fresh game) - it is now at over 2 million sold, not bad for a port. And then they released Umbrella Chronicles, which people were fine with - it was a way to see how Wii owners would respond to the franchise. It ALSO sold quite well - 1.5 million to date. And then, rather than making RE5 for Wii, they instead decided that the sales of Umbrella Chronicles proved that the Wii was a great place for rail shooters, rather than real RE titles.

The blame lays at the feet of Capcom, not Wii owners. Wii owners did everything asked of them, and Capcom spat in their faces.

Oh, don't get me wrong - they saw that RE4 had sold really quite well. Not bad at all for a port. So what did they do? More ports - RE Zero and RE1 both got ported... but no RE5, or any other new RE that plays like RE4.

So again I say it, the blame lays at Capcom's feet, not Wii owners' feet.

You should know by now that 'hardcore' gamers claim that they want 'hardcore' games for Nintendo consoles, but then don't buy them.

And if there is an exclusive 'hardcore' game (Resi 4, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2 etc.), then people complain that it's on a 'kiddy' system, and thus 'Nintendo systems have no gamez'.

They just can't win. It's been this way for years, and it continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

...

And the system had only been out for little over a year, with few heavy-hitters and multiple niche titles. With NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario etc. this year, I would expect Western sales to pick up very soon.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

why would the hardcore buy hardcore games for a console they don't own?

Actually, that's just the people online.

No More Hereos sales on Wii: 0.52 million.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise sales on PS3: 0.13 million (plus 0.09 million in Japan for the "Red Zone edition").

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise sales on 360: 0.02 million.

For an undoubtedly niche title, No More Heroes did very well on the Wii. As did the sequel, at 0.34 million. In fact, if I remember correctly, they're Suda 51's best-selling games of all time, or close to it.

Resident Evil 4 sold over 2 million on the Wii. Not bad for a port that was on both PS2 and GameCube.

Red Steel 2 is a sad case - it would have sold so much better if they'd given it a completely new name. It sold poorly to people who liked the first game, because it was so different, and it sold poorly to people who disliked the first game, because it was "Red Steel". Even still, it managed a respectable 0.53 million.

The games he stated that aren't selling are "hardcore" games.

It's that "hardcore" gamers don't want to buy it.
