Forums - Nintendo - 3DS Game Sales

I'm enjoying my 3DS. Kid Icarus, Oot, and Re Revelations get played the most. I'm waiting for KH3D to release and i'll probably pick up the Tales game at somepoint. Also hoping Ex troopers gets released in NA. (though might get it for PS3 instead depending on how the versions differ)

@Conegamer, I was more referring to the people who only own Nintendo consoles and not the multiple owners who never by hardcore on Nintendo. Surely games like the ones you mentioned should have appealed to at least 30% of the Nintendo crowd who buy the marios and zeldas etc..

As I noted, they haven't had a holiday season for Resident Evil: Revelations, yet. Both Mario and Zelda have. A lot of people who buy Nintendo systems aren't so devoted to gaming that they buy games at launch - many will wait until the holidays, when there are various major sales, etc, on. And the same will apply to other titles that are going to perform well.

And I really don't see how either Red Steel 2 or No More Heroes would have appealed to 30% of the Mario/Zelda crowd - those games were niche by any standard. They actually performed well above realistic expectations.

youare probably right. I am just so conditioned in Australia with sales every other weekend lol. most recent stock take.

Mind you when I was in the USA games are so cheap already anyway lol. I think I just buy too many and expect regular people to do the same.

And why would anyone with a Nintendo system want to play sequels from franchise that have never appeared before on a Nintendo system, the third parties screwed themselves by not putting out the games in the first place.

I've got to agree with this to a point too. As someone who has grown up on Nintendo, I am unlikely to give most third-party games a look in edgewise against Nintendo games simply because they weren't there when I was developing my brand loyalty to Ninty (Late N64/Early NGC).

It's not recieving much coverage (ie. advertisements, media etc.), and there is still a lot of people that believe that it's another iteration of the DS. This will change as the games arrive, because they realise that they won't be able to buy the new games on their DSes. Oh, and teenagers don't care much for it-  but that's to be expected

And did DS do a lot better or was it in this same situation at the time?

I was too young to care about how the general public percieved the DS- I just remember it being popular around me and my 11 year-old friends :p

I think Resident Evil suffers from being bundled with the CPP. People associate RE with the CPP in the west and think that the game is unplayable without it, but the CPP adds additional cost, is not really portable and ugly. So they hold off on buying it. I imagine the unbundled game doesn't sell at all.

It's a shame, because the game is really good, with or without CPP.

I don't think jumping onto unknown but established IP's is a big problem.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I bought it without the CPP :o

And if there is an exclusive 'hardcore' game (Resi 4, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2 etc.), then people complain that it's on a 'kiddy' system, and thus 'Nintendo systems have no gamez'.

Actually, that's just the people online.

No More Hereos sales on Wii: 0.52 million.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise sales on PS3: 0.13 million (plus 0.09 million in Japan for the "Red Zone edition").

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise sales on 360: 0.02 million.

For an undoubtedly niche title, No More Heroes did very well on the Wii. As did the sequel, at 0.34 million. In fact, if I remember correctly, they're Suda 51's best-selling games of all time, or close to it.

Resident Evil 4 sold over 2 million on the Wii. Not bad for a port that was on both PS2 and GameCube.

Red Steel 2 is a sad case - it would have sold so much better if they'd given it a completely new name. It sold poorly to people who liked the first game, because it was so different, and it sold poorly to people who disliked the first game, because it was "Red Steel". Even still, it managed a respectable 0.53 million.

I'm well aware that it's people online, but devs do listen to the people online. And it does tend to grate. And for the kind of niche titles they are, the people online will likely be the main market for these kind of games...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I know quite a few casual gamers in this country who bought both a Wii and a DS, who haven't got a 3DS yet.   I think, like radish said, a lot of people don't know it's any different from a normal DS yet.  And a lot of those casuals have moved onto gaming on their phones.

I don't see the 3DS taking off over here the way the DS did.  In fact, I don't know anyone who owns one at the minute, but I haven't particularly asked many people :P

that is a pretty narrow view because as an example half the cod players started with cod 4 just because you got to kill terrorist instead of ww2 enemies.

also dont forget that for some gamers this would be their first generation.how do you think they feel seeing all these sequels?

This is why retro gaming is ever growing and  ebay and emulation is so popular. people take a risk and if they like the game, will try to buy an old system and the prequel games or simply emulate.
