Dodece said: I am somewhat bemused by the posters that think the PS4 and the Next Box will be in some way comparable as far as raw power will be concerned. Microsoft has made it a point to push the envelope. Not only does their model for console gaming allow them to have a substantial loss lead. Their cash reserves ensure they have the power to really make that a reality. I expect the Next Box to be at least twice as powerful, but more likely to be three times more powerful. |
(oh for the guy that was wondering the last time I posted this that's Yoshida sitting next to him)

No, its just hype to get people excited about PS4.

Eitherway, the current consoles have pretty much hit a wall. For the past few years the visual improvements haven't been significant.
The only thing holding developers back from giving us significantly better looking games is the limitations of the current hardware.

SONY: "We want our next system to perform noticeably better than the last one we put out."
People: "Yep. They're gonna throw away tons of money again."
I don't see why this is the automatic conclusion... They're profiting on the PS3 right now selling at $250. Who's to say they can't make a profitable $400 console that yield better performance?
Building something to be sold at $250 today would out perform something built to be sold at $250 6 years ago by a fuck ton. Think about that.

Sony's in the worst financial situation of the Big 3. I don't see how they can afford to launch a console with a loss leader strategy at this point. They need to be profitable out of the gate. I'm not sure what kind of strategy MS is going to take. They are in the best situation, financially, to release a next gen console with a huge technical leap in power. That said, I don't think Sony or MS will release a state of the art hardware like a lot of the VGChartz contingent is expecting.
