I don't think there are many replacement models when the software/hardware ratio for the week was over 10:1 (or rather last week seeing as software data isn't up yet). I expect that ratio to drop though seeing as there weren't any major(were there even any new releases?) releases for the week though. I'm still confused by how you said that software doesn't match the hard ware when it isn't even up yet for Europe which was what you were most confused over right?

I don't see the point of this thread, well at least in mentioning the PS3 sold 121k. It sold 126k the week before. PS3 is just selling. It's a great system, tons of exclusives, a good price now, and the hate is starting to die off. Besides what are you comparing it too? Xbox 360? Wii? Technically hardware sales are down. PS3 sold 4.5 million by this time last year and only 4.2 this year. Granted its decline is less than the other two and its selling more, but its not like some phenomenon is occurring.

The thread title doesn't make sense to the topic, the poll doesn't even touch on the dozens of possible conclusions, and PS3 isn't even up year over year right now.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I'll update the thread title. It's hard to keep it short and to the point.

I've already said as much...

and PS3 isn't even up year over year right now.

I never said as much.

You understand this is a VG sales forum, yeah? Dear god.

It's a great system, tons of exclusives, a good price now, and the hate is starting to die off. Besides what are you comparing it too?

I'm comparing it to what things were before, with lots of big sellers releasing at 100k+ each week on the HD twins. That's what I'm comparing it too. I've also already said as much, have you read the thread?

I never talked about a decline. That wasn't my question. I was trying to understand what retail SW sales were causing the good performance of PS3 HW sales, i.e. system sellers. As it were, I was looking in the wrong place, others have already mentioned that to me, but you likely didn't read the thread.

You are very demanding though, I'd like you to know. It's hard to live in a forum where people are always complaining about things...

so when you buy a console you are only allowed to get new software.......lol ok

you might want to check PS3 million sellers this past few years if you want to know what people are buying, and learn the definition of late adopter, you buy the console now becasue it's cheaper which means your probably more likely going to buy older software becasue it's, well you know....cheaper

simple logic it isn't that hard, at least I don't think it is

That's not what I meant, and I agreed that 2nd hand software was something I forgot in the poll. But usually when we consider HW sales, we try to look at what would constitute a system seller, be it second hand or new games.

what is it with you Nintendo fans and system sellers

how many times do I have to say it: the same rules don't apply to playstion products so stop trying, it's annoying

people have never brought a playstion console for that one game, NEVER in playstion history, it's always been for a bunch of games and these bunch of games differ from person to person with very little being the same hence the always small number of multi millon sellers compared to the MASSIVE number of million sellers

look put it this way

I didn't buy the Vita to play Uncharted GA, I didn't buy it to play Wipeout, or Gravity Rush, or MLB the show, or MK, or Assassins Creed Liberation, or Little Big Planet

I brought a Vita to play Uncharted GA, Wipeout 2048, Gravity Rush, MLB The show, MK, Assassins Creed Liberation, and Little Big Planet

Non of those games individually sold me a Vita but ALL of them together sold me a Vita, NON of them are system sellers but ALL of them are system sellers

the same principle applies for the PS3

people are buying it now becasue it's cheaper than it was when it launched and has one of the largest most diverse library of games this generation with the vast majority of those games being incredibly cheap now becasue of how long it's been out. Killzone, Uncharted, LBP, GT5, and the countless third party games are all fractions of what they cost at launch, brand new, not even used (a market we don't track here) it's the reason the ps3's million sellers have been rapidly increasing, almost close to passing the 360 which launched a year and half earlier

It was probably the Last of US trailer.

1. That would be nice, I prefer titles to match the thread subject.

2.. Then why have a poll? The question you are asking can not simply be answered through a poll, lest you check every option.

3. I wasn't trying to counter a claim you made regarding year over year sales. I was simply questioning why you felt the sales of the PS3 merited a discussion thread when the sales are not particularly out of place with expectations. It seems you are placing too much emphasis on individual week sales that it seems like that is the focus point of this thread.

4. Again, because you highlight this last particular week you have it read off as if sales are out of the ordinary.

5. Okay, I understand that. If that's the question you are looking to answer then you very well won't find the answer, at least not a simply one. It seems you are trying to attribute SW sales to HW sales. The PS3 has a large install base, new SW can sell quite a bit without any added HW. Plenty of those games are multiplatform as well. It is really hard to conclude that any software this late in the game is a system seller. System sellers are more relevant and easier to measure at the beggining of a console's lifetime. HW sales today could simply be for other features or the large selection of games, as an example maybe MGS4 or Uncharted 1 is a system seller for someone this week. Things are not so easily tied up into new SW as the majority of SW is purchased by pre existing HW owners. The 10 to 1 SW to HW ratio isn't a good indicator towards system sellers either at this stage in the game. New owner tend to have less SW than long time owners.

6. I wasn't claiming you did talk of decline, but your OP is confusing. The problem is that you are trying to tie SW to HW as a determining factor to eachother. The common saying that SW sells HW is true but it can't be used as a means of analysis way down the road of a consoles lifecycle. A new SW can sells thousands but not contribute to a single HW sale. I did read the thread, I even read it over again to figure out what was going on. It seems this discussion is just filled with confusion and cheap back and forth attacks. It is hard to tell what exactly is going on or what is to be acheived, but since I realized you are trying to figure out something that doesn't exist it is making more sense now. I'm only demanding when people make confusing threads.

Essentially the PS3 is selling at its current rate because of a combination of everything. The system itself, its various markets, SW backlog, marketing, sales, new SW (to some extent), etc. etc. If you are trying to identify a system seller its best to observe a HW increase the week of a big release. Since you expected HW sales to go down, from what I can tell, did you even see if HW sales went up for those titles you mentioned? PS3 sales have been on a slight decline or relatively static for the last few months.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Could be a lot of downloaded games, Sony had an amazing deal in Playstation Plus for June, like $250 worth of free games, and actually really good games.

Core customers, as in core gamers? They could very well be buying PS3s for its older titles (and new ones of course).

Yes. From what I understood, they would have probably bought it already.

Also, what makes you say this?

"Most of these games, except FIFA, are games pure Sony fans would play, games previous owners would buy. So what are the recent PS3 purchases explained by?"

What I meant by "most of these games" were the new games on the top 10, like Max Paine. In other words, games that would be bought by current PS3 owners, especially at that volume 40K sales.
