I read this and while it is true that Sony and Microsoft have been working on their services for years now, all I can sit and ask myself is:

What the hell have they been doing all these years?

Nintendo should of invested on this idea honestly, but now if they ever do this in the future maybe a generation or later, they'll be even more behind when the time comes.

They could easily make alot of money out of this idea with their games...I guess that is why some of their games still cost 49.99 when they've been out for years (cough Super Smash Bros. Brawl cough).

I would like them to go in depth and let us know exactly what their online service provides because to be 100% honest. Enough of this secretive crap. The damn thing is supposed to be less than 6 months away.

Nobody wants to put money down now without knowing what the hell they are buying and certainly don't want to put down the money last minute either.

Agree with you that we need to know more.

But don't agree with 'Nobody wants to put money down now without knowing what the hell they are buying and certainly don't want to put down the money last minute either."

there is a third option, put it in the bank and not down as a preorder. So when it does get closer to launch and you feel like you want the WiiU, pull the money from the bank and use it.

Easier said than done on that 3rd option, especially when you have kids. You'd be surprised at how quickly money that is being saved for gaming purchases becomes money for something else.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

More ps3 fanboy nintendo negativity...haven't had enough of that lately.

Check my games collection and then come back. I have dipped into everything, with Nintendo being just as prevelant as Sony.

Have nothing worthwhile to contribute? Then stay out of the thread.

As for negativity... it is straight from Iwata's mouth buddy.

Ok dude sorry I called you a sony fanboy (hey, my profile claims ps3 to be my favourite console)...don't mean to sound bitter just everytime I log on lately seems to be more and more 'wii u is crap and it's gonna fail' threads and it's bringing me down...sorry

Not a problem. It's all water under the bridge now.

Nintendo should have been up there quicker, but the Nintendo Network seems to have some cool ideas, and I like the sound of the Miiverse.

I think it'll be on par or better than the PSN, and same with XBL. I read it more that they'll never get the same level of support from gamers, which only makes sense.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

"We think that one fun area of possibility, as we have discussed, is for people not just to enjoy the games but also communicate with others about topics relating to the games," he said.

Holy shit. Nintendo is going to invent internet forums.

that made me LAWL

They just need to make everything that is generic like surfing the market place more cutesy and fun, just like they did with 3DS , also they need to make an echosystem that uses you Mii on everything online related (which is what they are doing), they are going to be well.....
butt (and its a big huge fat Butt) the only thing that they are doing wrong is the damn friend codes, this is where the problem lies, and nintendo is well aware of it.

Why exactly better?

Faster, more streamlined, not as many rude children, Miiverse etc.

All hypothetical at this point, of course.

To be honest, I fully understand him for saying this, most companies make mis-steps when trying something new (I mean, Sony overlooked the ability to deliver cross-game chat by making is physically impossible on the PS3, despite having online capabilities for the PS3). But much like PS2 -> PS3, I expect Wii -> Wii-U to take the basics of online foundations and improve them greatly, just maybe not in every area.

That said, I was pretty pissed off when I found out Pikmin 3 wasn't going to have an online mode. A lot of my friends have moved away in recent years and we keep in contact a lot over consoles - playing a little Uncharted 2 here, a little LittleBigPlanet 2 there. Pikmin 3 would be absolutely perfect for us. I especially love dedicated co-op modes or even co-op campaigns, which would fit Pikmin down to a t. But nothing. Disappoint :(

You can say whatever you want about Nintendo but they know make gold out of shit. Altough I am a big PS fan, I have to admit that Sony is copying them ever. And I am sure that Nintendo will make something special out of there Nintendo Network. And Sony will copy it afterwards

Iwata didn't say at all that they "can't" catch up, at all! He said it wouldn't be a good idea for them to try to emulate what they did, which is absolutely accurate - it WOULDN'T. They should do something unique and different that offers the same core concepts, and that's absolutely what they have right now.

The only thing I don't see yet is an achievement system. That's ALL I want.

This is pretty much what I think. He don't want to run after the competition trying to copy everything to catch up, like the competition did with Move and (much better) with Kinect. I think he wants Nintendo to build up it's own network and adding features as they think they are good. And I'm pretty sure, over time they will implement the same core features, although they may name them different or have a different approach to them. The only thing may be some features, NIntendo thinks are not appropriate for a gaming machine. Whatever that may be.
